SCOPE RING PROBLEM

I am trying to move the scope on one of my rifles, the scope ring screws are the Torx type and a couple are stuck, they weren't over tightened but haven't been undone in 20 years, the Torx key that fits started to shear off, does anyone have any tricks to loosen the screws and can anyone recommend a make of quality keys

thanks in advance gentlemen for any help

Did you use any lock tight other ?
You could if you have not damaged the T screw head heat up the driver bit and heat transfer to the bolt or shock them up then undo with down force and very little twist action to start with some heated penetrative release agent to start off would be my first choice.

Im not sure, they are Leupold rings, so I would guess imperial, I will buy a set so that I get the correct one, if that fails there is a custom rifle builder 10 minutes down the road, it may be a job for him

If you feel your going to end up destroying the head iam happy for you to send it down or as you say you man your end if all fails he could drill out and remove them like studs once counterhead are removed.

Impact driver and bit done with care. Or try to tighten them a bit first then undo them, bit of heat or cold freeze shock spray. heat and penetrating oil would be my first port of call.
This ^^^^

The impact driver will help relieve pressure that is bearing on the thread walls while trying to turn the screw out.

All fixed, its always handy to have a pal with plenty of know how and plenty of quality tools, the method employed was WD40 and an electric soldering iron and some quality Torx Keys and a torque screw driver, I have a feeling that I must have tried to move the scope a few years ago, when I was looking through my little tin of rifle tools I found a Wheeler Engineering Level, Level, Level set, anyway the scope is now remounted to the rifle and ready for a zero check in the morning

Slightly tighten apply kano kroil leave 24 hrs , has worked wonders on some 1st world war items.Good luck.
