Scottish Air Rifle Query

Good Morning all,

I currently have my FAC for a .270 and a .17hmr.

I have acquired farm land that has some barns with a lot of crows in so the .17hmr is too much for in there and i am looking at the air rifle route.

Being FAC, do I just put in for a variation on my FAC to hold a air rifle or would I need to go the route of applying for a new air rifle license.

In Scotland I think you need a separate Air Weapon Certificate.
Check with your Police Scotland FEO.

I thought it was a separate one but was unsure if it could be added on. Might be worth me just waiting the crows out on some road kill.

If you want a sub 12ftlb air rifle then you have to apply for and be granted an Air Weapon Certificate
If you want an air rifle with more than12ftlb muzzle energy, you can just apply for variation to add it to your certificate
A variation to add an additional weapon to your certificate will cost £20
An air weapon certificate costs £72 and you have go through the same process (medical ,home visit etc) as for a shotgun or firearm
Many pcp air rifle that are FAC rated can easily be turned down to sub 12ftlb or less when needed and then turned back up again

A word of caution, any air rifle listed on your FAC permanently becomes a section 1 firearm and therefore can only be transferred to another FAC with an air weapon slot, regardless of its power. Unless you specifically need an 12ftlb+ rifle it's much easier to go for the AWC.

It's been said on here. You could put in for a fac air rifle. Let's say a second hand theoben rapid. 30ftlbs. You could then turn it down and re zero for indoor vermin control. Then turn back up. Or wait until your fac is back up for renewal and get a awc aswell.

I found the process a bit odd. Whilst happy to grant "field" use, hence unsupervised, my interviewer wanted reassurance that I would attend a clubbing I put field target down for use

I think the coterminous way is only an extra £5. For a grant, out with sgc / FAC renewal cycle, it will be £70.

Sub 12ftlbs you need a air weapon certificate. Over 12ftlbs you get a variation on your fac

I could give you one a certificate that is, I received mine through the post, one on Friday one on Saturday and one on Monday.
That was in the early days of Air Weapon Certificates think they have it sorted now.

sure my Firearms officer would question that one.
