Scourie Hotel

I'm sure I can't be the only person on the site to have used the Scourie Hotel, but the sad news is that Richard and the family have decided not to re-open the Hotel this season due to the distancing and PPE guidelines. The fact that Sturgeon and Holyrood haven't even given any precise dates for "re opening" won't have helped either, despite England being allowed to creak back into action. Although not a deer stalking hotel, much more revolving around Trout fishing on their fine collection of lochs, it also provides Scourie with a decent local pub and helps serve the North Coast 500 route as well as being a lovely comfortable place to sit at the end of a day thrashing the water to a foam. A there aren't a huge number of Hotels in the North West of Sutherland, I hope this is just a one off, but as the season is a short one I fear that there will be further closures - both short term and permanently. I've still got a booking up there in September, but keep watching the inbox for updates with some trepidation. Hopefully next year we'll get a good season and we'll be able to support our own businesses rather than disappearing off into exotic foreign climes!

If the hotel staying closed helps keep the hoards (and possible infection) away , I'm all for it!
The local health infrastructure couldn't cope with any additional workload.
With luck Astra Zeneca will succeed in developing the vaccine against Covid. Only then when folks are immune should tourism restart.

p.s. the fish will be bigger next year!

It’s one of a few hotels that are not going to open. Also quite a few campsites staying closed, makes you wonder where the ‘hoards’ will be staying ?

At home it is hoped. It has been a delight going to Holt's last week without being stuck behind endless bloomin' caravans and camper vans.

That's a shame, it was an eccentric sort of crew who ran the place, but the hotel was in a great location. There'll be a few universities and geology societies who'll be sad to hear that bit of news
I used to enjoy taking one of their dogs for a walk when on fieldtrips, I was then sure at least one of us could remember the way back to the hotel

Hopefully will just be a temporary shut down, I believe they were using the initial shut down to do some upgrading to the place. Aiming to reopen in the spring. Always a problem trying to get and keep regular staff when it's just for a six month season (usually), but must be a nightmare if anyone is only going to offer 2 or 3 month contracts. Fingers crossed for 2021.
