I use full-frame Nikon digital SLR’s. This shot was with a s/h Nikon D4 and a 500mm lens, though I often use a D750. You don’t necessarily need the same to get some great deer photos, though. My old Nikon D300 served me very well, and those bodies can be picked up for under £150. Otherwise have a look at the mirrorless systems from Sony, Olympus and Panasonic.
Decent autofocus telephoto lenses take you into expensive territory though.
