Securing a quad whilst in a trailer

insurance is your best option. Given the situation that you have discribed i think it would be stolen pretty quickley in most areas.
Insurance [at reasonable cost] is extremely difficult to get just for a quad bike these days. If you are insuring with other things - eg all the contents of a farm steading that is easy but on its own is VERY difficult. [Edit] Sadly another thread just started proves my point precisely.

Why not invest in a small box trailer , if it's a regular thing it will soon pay off . Out of sight out of mind !

Start with the fact that you are going to leave a quad and trailer in the middle of nowhere, but where it can be seen, unattended. Then try and minimise that risk. Can you make it less noticeable from the road? Do you really need to leave it there? What alternatives are there? Are you doing it too regularly? Change your routine. A bit of inconvenience can give you more peace of mind. When you've done anything you can in that department, then look at the actual physical security. A simple hitch lock is the first thing. Then secure the bike to the trailer. Then think about alarms. A simple movement alarm which puts out a load of noise will deter many. You could perhaps think about an alarm that calls your mobile. Depending, of course where you are and mobile signals.

But think laterally. Maybe get one of those mines that sets off a blank shotgun cartridge (Henry Krank sells them I think) and use that is one thing that springs to mind. but you get the idea. Be creative about making theft as difficult as possible, with a real danger the thief may get caught and, really that's all you can do. Do you leave it hitched up to your vehicle? A camera looking at the trailer/bike might be good. too.

That’s the thing the quad will be on the trailer whilst I’m stalking as it’s only needed for extraction
I think chains and padlocks are probably the most practical method
Hi Svet
cant you unload the trailer hide it, and chain then it to a substantial tree ?

I doubt any insurance company would come good for a quad nicked off a trailer left alone at roadside unattrnded.

A lot might depend just how busy the road is and how out off view u are parked.

U might be best driving the bike a short distance to cover if u can

If ur trailer has a decent full ramp back door?
I cut a hole in the mesh either side off a support beam at back rack hieght so I could slide 1 of those round motor cycle chain things that are meant to be anti cut.
This was in days before u had decent battery grinders, now very little is truely safe
Meant u couldn't lower the back door to get bike off.

Did think about cutting a hole in floor to chain it to chassis but just a pain putting a chain round somewhere secure on bike, really suspension, u'll just end up covered in sh*the taking chain on and off.

In my shed I did chain trailer to floor with bike on it, but u soon get bored doing it

But u still need to secure trailer to van.

Just depends how many dedicated well equipped toe raggs in ur area.

I’ll send you details of an excellent tracker system mate. To those interested itracker do a unit for £70 that is GPS based and works off a SIM card, text it and it texts you co-ordinates. Brilliant and cost effective kit. Our local police have recovered several fitted with these.

Thanks for all of the responses! There are too many sobering stories that make me question if my easiest option ( load up the quad and trailer and go for it) is actually the best option. Regardless a tracker sounds like a good investment to be sure. I will also look at other extraction options that may be easier to manage from a security point of view.

Chaining trailer to car and quad to trailer, motion sensitive disc lock alarms two off one on quad one on trailer, magnetic gps tracker from.amazon one on quad and one on trailer,

An alternative view, how far is the stalking from ur house?
Could u sell ur quad and buy a road legal UTV thing if not to far assuming it would still cope with the extraction.
A boy locally has done that got rid off his pick up and travels to shoot in his utv, no road tax

Or grallich deer and go back for quad.

Why is there such a demand for quad bikes amongst the criminal fraternity - are they remaining in UK or being shipped overseas? Is it better to register them with the DVLA?

You know the ground and the circumstances better than anybody else. Have you had anything stolen from your parked wagon before in that place?

Is there any reason you can't take the quad part way on the stalk to get it away from the road / nearer to the likely extraction point...or are you in stealth mode from the first moment?

It’s a relatively small wood so yes, stalking from the second of arrival.

About 25 miles each way so a bit far for a UTV. Gralloch and return for quad is potentially feasible but would be an hour round trip at least

My stalking mentor used to "stalk" on his quad bike, the deer (fallow) apparently did not seem to be particularly worried by machinery. It might be worth an experiment of at least trying to do the first stretch on the quad bike...if it does bump the deer then don't do it the next time!

I do have a similar concern for my wagon when parking up in view of the road in one of my permissions in Sussex, and always try and tuck it out of south travelling passing driver's sight. Drivers going north should be concentrating on the bend...

I dream up things like having an innocuous looking old tank at the head of the trailer, its full of liquid (3 months old) human schitt or do schitt and pressurised, one wrong move in not doing the disarming sequence means that anyone there gets a proper pressure wash in schitt.
Must have? Camera in tree close by and set on "movie'
