Seeking shooting friendly private psychiatrist for application assistance.

I am assisting in a grant application and due to issues with the GP (reports not being conclusive and further reports requested from NHS departments ignored/denied), the licensing authority have requested a private report from a 'suitably qualified mental health practitioner'.

Do we know of any shooting friendly private psychologists/psychiatrists whom I may be able to contact?

I am not looking for comment on the reasonableness of this here - i'm aware of the facts and the police are being reasonable - with the applicant offering voluntarily out of good faith to have a private assessment done.

Thankyou all.

You would hope that this service was available, not knowing the circumstances but knowing people with a history (as in past tense) for whom obtaining a licence would be hard if looked at as black and white records it’s good they are seeking further specialist appraisal, rather than simply dismissing it, certainly not to be unreasonable but to give everyone a chance. The person of whom I speak has transformed by having a hobby they enjoy hugely, best of luck.

I am indeed a shooting friendly Professor of Psychiatry, (Emeritus, University of Hull), in other words a medically trained doctor who specialised in mental health. I have been a consultant psychiatrist since 1988.
Great pity I can't spell Psychiatrist isn't it! Comes of being married to a Consultant Anaesthetist. On complex word is my limit.

David.

PS. If you are an Emeritus Professor you must have retired very young!!!! :)

Ah yes, that is great to read and I imagine that the SD brethren would add even more to your knowledge base of 'blokes with guns' ( lol) I find it refreshing to hear of a professional that puts it out there rather than hides it (shooting friendly).
I know a few Dr`s that wont allow anyone outside of their own circle to know what they do on weekends....shooting sports.

I have never been embarrassed about shooting and stalking and do not think anyone else ought to be. I give lectures to doctors about guns and psychiatry when I have the opportunity😊

From what you say do remember the police should pay the fee for such further reports

2.37 Where the doctor indicates that there are relevant medical issues and the police require further medical information in order to consider the application, the police may, at the chief officer’s discretion, contact the doctor directly to discuss the application or seek further clarification. If necessary, the police should ask the applicant to contact the doctor to obtain further information, such as a medical report, about these issues. Any fee required by the doctor at this stage is a matter between the doctor and the applicant. If, having received further information, the police still have concerns about any of the medical information given or wish to obtain a more detailed report, they may request this from the doctor, the applicant’s GP or, if appropriate, from a relevant specialist. The police should meet the costs associated with the provision of this additional report.

2.38 If the applicant themself has declared a relevant medical condition on the application form the police may ask the applicant to obtain and pay for, if required, a medical report to assist with their consideration of medical suitability. If a further medical report is subsequently required by the police to assist with consideration of the application, the police will pay for this.

@Liveonce very useful, thankyou for bringing this to our attention. It's incredibly disappointing, burgeoning on disrespectful, that the FLU has not brought this to attention from the offset and is expecting this applicant to pay, even after paying for two GP's reports already. We shall be discussing this with the FLU promptly! cc @Ladygun
