Shooting .38 / .357 lever action in N.Ireland

Hello,
Has anyone in N.I managed to get a .38/.357 lever action on their licence for vermin / field use?

Enquired about it a few years ago and it was a flat no. To quote what I was told, both calibres have "too much energy for field use".

Thanks. That's what I thought but was hopeful someone may have managed to convince the powers that be that it would be good for field use...

That's just nuts. Similar to a 223.

.38/.357 would be fantastic for field use which is why I enquired about it. Whether or not there's any merit to the response I received, it appears someone working for the licencing authority disagrees. .223 carries a lot more energy for a considerably longer distance which makes it more versatile, but there's definitely a gap that could be filled with .38/.357.

There are also a price difference .357mag are about 0.4£ here, similar to 22wmr. Easy to reload.

45£/20 223r ,30£/50 357mag. In Sweden .357 are in the same hunting ammo class as 223r 38spl are the same class as 22wmr.

Fat chance but a Winchester underlever in .22 WMR will do the job right up to foxes quite nicely…..
I parted with mine a while ago - silly FB….

Best ever was 150 fox cub but very bullet selective. Personally I would forget it and buy a .17 hmr…

There's an argument to be had there that the .357 has plenty of energy at closer ranges but bleeds it off more quickly being a less aerodynamic bullet, hence it's safer in certain circumstances!
