Shooting diary app

Hi all, me again!

The devil certainly makes use for idle hands, so I’ve been busy creating a (free) shooting diary app.
It’s not yet released, so still in beta testing and the android version is yet to be written…
But! For anyone looking to keep a record of their shooting sessions, competitions, firearms, ammunition etc this may be a handy companion for you. It’s also available globally and not limited to the UK (like my other app).
All feedback is welcomed, constructive criticism is preferred 😉

Hi,
The link just takes me to the TestFlight app download- assume we would need to do this first but then how would we link to your app?

Yeah, once the TestFlight app is installed and you click the link, it should take you to a page like this (attached). Let me know if there’s any issues 👍🏻

I wouldn`t be comfortable to have my shooting data online.
It’s not stored anywhere online, only locally on your phone.
I do understand though. If your phone were to get into the wrong hands, they were to know the password (or be able to shapeshift and fool Face ID) they would be able to see all your firearm details. Or, worse, how you did in the last shooting competition…in my case 😅
It’s not for everyone. I just had an idea that some people might want to easily keep a record of all their shooting sessions etc and be able to export them to excel to make their next FAC appointment a little easier for all parties involved…

Look forward to seeing it.

I currently keep a spread sheet but that relies on me remembering to fill it out once I'm back in work. I mainly do this to ensure all of my firearms (there's a few  ) get used at least 4 times a year, as suggested in the current guidance for target, will your app have a function to show usage over the last 12 month period by any chance?

Yes, some of the feedback I’ve gotten from other members of the rifle club I belong to have suggested being able to export the data based on a timeframe, similar to what you mentioned.
This can be done easily from excel as well, but definitely handy to be able to export direct from the app and forward straight to whomever.

I’ve stuck some placeholder firearms in for now, but over the next few days I’ll be linking the firearms section to the dropdown in the shooting sessions tab, so you can select any rifle you’ve entered and have the details populated automatically.
There’s also a link between the ammunition and shooting sessions, so if you put down you’ve got 200 .308 rounds, then you mark down you’ve fired 35 at a shooting session, it’ll automatically deduct it from your inventory.
There’s even a handy “minimum quantity” part that’ll notify you when you’re running low.

Sounds good :tiphat:

Made some adjustments and updated some features if anyone is still interested.
Apparently a few people got a message about the beta not accepting any more testers, too…I have amended that and it’s now open to everyone via the link 👍🏻

Brilliant! If there’s any adjustments you’d like to see or maybe another feature that you think would be useful, feel free to drop me a message and I’ll try to include it in the next update

And equally I'm not comfortable with storing any data exclusively on my phone. A recipe for disaster.

I used to own a company that, as part of its services, built software systems for medium sized enterprises and multi nationals

One of the best compliments we ever received from IT departments was that our product(s) were ‘‘one of the few software systems that ‘added value’ to the company ‘’

It is early days, and I'm sure it will develop over time, however after a brief test run I think I can say the same about this

Thanks John, that’s a wonderful compliment.
That’s all I’m trying to achieve here is to maybe make it easier for like minded folk to keep records if they wish to do so.

It’s not for everyone, though. Luckily, the app doesn’t install itself unless you download/install it 👍🏻

Should the app evolve into something that can communicate with other devices, then there would be a requirement for encryption etc.

I’ll keep everyone updated on the progress of the android version as well.
All of your comments and (constructive) feedback is appreciated!

Morning all!
It may have taken 6 months, but the android version is ready for testing! 🥳
If anyone would like to be a part of the testing phase, please send over your email in a PM, I’ll add you in and then send you a link.
The UI is almost identical, apart from the obvious Apple vs android graphic differences.

Thanks again to everyone who has been involved up to this point, it’s greatly appreciated!
