Speak to the British NRA. They will have a list of affiliated clubs. You might still have to do a 6 month probation period etc as per Home Office rules but it will give you a local club, possibly marksmanship instruction and access to ranges.

No point joining a range TBH, usually full of old codgers who prefer to drink tea and chat in the shed clubhouse instead of shooting.
Have tried to join a couple of clubs/ranges but I gave up as it seemed harder to join than the Freemasons...
Just choose somewhere with a suitable backstop and stick a fruit box (choose one with white underside) up with a heavy stone at the bottom to stop the wind from blowing over.
Much easier than paying hundreds and mucking about with membership, training etc. If I wanted a hobby as an excuse to meet people, I wouldn't choose shooting.
If you want your ticket 'opened' just call your FEO and tell them you have booked stalks in Scotland, see if they want to go up and check if the land is 'cleared' for a .243 or not...
Their is a private 100mtr range run by a business on the left at the end of old hay (approach road name) just before you enter the driveway to west kent shooting ground, they used to charge £10 to hire it but I was recently told that has increased to £20. Not been personally since the beginning of Covid.
A have a look at the NRA Bisley website - you will find a list of clubs in your county with contacts. The requirements for shooting on a range are different than shooting in the field. Safety discipline is paramount as any infringement of range standing/safety breakdown could close a range. Visit a few ranges and discuss details. Not all clubs have "lots of old blokes sitting around drinink tea."
