Good afternoon ,
im wondering if anyone has registered a vehicle as limited use / agricultrual for stalking purposes ? one estate i stalk is around 5000 acres and there will have to be some limited public road use but ive a chance at a little jimny for very cheap , was it much of a faff or expensive to do ?

thank you

Type in the 'Search' and you will get the details up for atv's which will be the same. In short, for an atv, £110 and less than a month for the log book from start of application

I did it a few years ago with a land rover,
Firstly get agri insurance, NFU were really good and put it on a tractor policy for me
Then fill in the V5 with the change of use
I did mine before things were digital so had to go to the nearest DVLA office and show proof, apparently its all online now so possibly easy
As my 110 was diesel I started running it on red, not sure if you can claim anything back for petrol

Just a note, with vehicles like defenders and jimnys, it will likely be registered as limited use, this only allows a short distance to be travelled on public roads, agri use for quads might only cover you for daytime use, depending on the quad. Unsure of your circumstances, so might be easier to leave a vehicle on site for use and commute with your normal car

Thank you , that’s exactly my plan park the Volvo on the yard next to keepers house and I’ll be travelling no more than 5 miles a week on public roads I’m not concerned about claiming petrol back as the amount used will be minuscule but it’ll come in handy for getting to feeders on my rough shoot on the other side of the estate too as well as stalking

That's the problem. If you can avoid that then there's nothing at all needs to be done other than declare SORN (as in Statutory Off Road Notification). Log before all that I learned to change gears on a Morris 1100 Traveller by driving it across the fields and up and down the gravelled track on my pond. No insurance, no MoT, no tax as being on private land none are required in the way they would be if driven on a public road. So if the OP can somehow eliminate ALL public road use he has...with a SORN...solved his problem.

The problem is public road use ( for about half a mile or so ) is unavoidable

FYI I have a Jimny registered as an agricultural vehicle. Allows you 5km to travel ‘between fields’ I can only just get to the local petrol station. Wish it was a diesel, could run it on cherry. 🙄

NFU, ring your local office, explain what you intend to do and they'll probably put it on a tractor policy
That's exactly what the NFU did for us. Just be mindful that the vehicle still needs to be road worthy and all the lights ect need to be in order and maintained.
