Many years ago when I started out shooting I was a regular at the local newsagents buying the weekly/monthly shooting magazines to read in the evenings in front of the fire supping a glass of something.
I do recall some short stories in one, although I don't recall what one, a short story of a soldier in WW1 in the trenches feeding and assisting a dog (HPR) feeding him etc. Then sometime after the war the soldier was on a shoot and other guns recalled a similar dog running along no man's land. I found it quite moving.
I have searched for this story since and can't find it. There were other very good stories in the magazine as well.
Anyone recall this?
Any other recommendations of such short stories?
