IT IS WHY I TEST A NEW TO ME USED GUN BY INITIALLY LOADING AND FIRING ONE BARREL AT A TIME.

Smart move too,even perhaps to load a primed but empty case in the opp barrel as another check.

Might not work on some mechanisms that require the recoil to move the selector. Actual recoil maybe required to expose a fault but you wouldn't know without removing the barrels which in doing so may recock the hammers.
I'd just go shoot the bloody thing.
If one is worried put some light target loads in first.

A few years ago I had a novice friend who complained that his newly-acquired side by side would fire both barrels when he squeezed the trigger.

It didn't take long before the cause became apparent. The dozy bugger had his fingers on both triggers
