Show your double rifle

I love that Merkel 8x60JRS. What sort of ammo do you have loaded up for it?

I shoot a WWI era Mauser in 8x60S, and really enjoy it. It is really shooting 196..200 grain loads well now, at 2,500 to 2,600 fps. I am trying to find accurate ones with 150 and 170-gr bullets.

Hi Southern, I think we discussed this in a similar thread.

175 gn Sierra Pro-Hunters ,. Varget.. going about 2600 fps

Ade

I can't get accuracy at lower velocities, with my load experimentation so far. When I stepped up my 195, 196 and 200 grain loads past 2,500 fps, they groups got smaller and smaller. Same for the 150-gr; it likes a full power load. I still cannot find 175-gr bullets. I would like a non-destructive 170-gr deer load. 195-gr may be it for now.

Southern. I went about it like this;

I wanted a bullet which would IMO be suitable for Roe and Boar. . Nothing that would be too expanding at relatively low velocity,. Did the usual research etc.. Settled on the Sierra Pro-hnter 175 grn.

Started in the usual manner and worked up. Difference here was it was a double rifle so when the two bullets were printing "minute of deer" consistently. I stopped. "Minute of deer" in this case was left and right barrels lass than 1" apart at 50 yards. Job done. 46.5 g Varget. Check it out. Approx 2600 fps.

Had no complaints so far.

Good enough for me and the job in hand.

Cant believe you can't get Sierra 175 in the states. Thats where they are from innit?

Here is a nice Blaser S2 I regulated for 200m. With Geco and Hornady factory ammo.

Having a double does not mean using deadly at 50m excuse for something that can't keep up with a standard bolt in my opinion. Blaser got it right.

Thank you very much for your kind comments, it fits like a glove and is very accurate (i.e. clay pigeon at 70yds). It is heading to Cameroon in 2017 for a lion and elephant hunt, I have just had a new bead installed by Alan Rhone as it was consistently shooting a few inches high, I am hoping to get a roe buck with it over the next few weeks.

No but a mate is running one and a 45/70. Appears to be a big variation in wood quality. If I bought one Id spend a bit to get a smith to work on the triggers for weight and lop.

Here is a double I thought handled very nicely for me, didn't cost the earth either.

A fausti sxs in 45/70. I can't find it on their website though.

Have a 30-06 Baikal side by side double rifle....basic but the value for money is brilliant....any one else running one?
see post 12 i reworked mine made a new stock, better shaped roomier trigger guard and filed up a pr of shotgun style triggers to suit the bigger guard the issued ones were realy bad and worked on safety sliding surfaces along with work i mentioned in post 12 ,this winter i am going to get the graver out starting with the trigger guard and bottom plate and sort out the crude hatching pattern on the top lever great to work on over the winter.
