KC doesn't recognise silver labs, but they can be registered as chocolates for some reason

Possibly because they're a mongrels, but the kc being the kc and not wanting to miss a trick regards to getting registration fees, I'd imagine it won't take them long to catch up.

While labradoodles seem to be ok, most other matings done for colour or a stupid name have not gone well.

For goodness sake don’t throw another colour into the melting pot.
If you are not specific about your breeding,your reds could throw blacks and vice versa.
Don’t let’s over complicate things.
