Does anyone on here own a silver Labrador??
I’m not looking for peoples opinions of whether a Weimaraner is crossed in, or the colour gene carried. Simply peoples options and real life experiences of the dogs. I have read considerably around the skin conditions and looking for other owners experiences.
Cheers

Can you tell me what you base your agreement on or is it purely Unresearched guesswork?
My agreement is entirely based on my disdain for unscrupulous and unnecessary breed manipulation for the purpose of profit. The breed has absolutely no need of a silver variation, and I'm pretty sure I won't be alone in seeing this as a cynical exploitation of a breed that deserves far better. The bloody show set have already ruined more working breeds than you can shake a stick at, and I can see this bringing nothing but trouble. It's practically unheard of in the UK, and I truly hope it dies a very quick death before we start seeing limited-gene implications that will ruin the breed completely.

By your reply I presume you understand very little of the Labrador breed anyway, “a small gene pool” all Labradors go back to a tiny gene pool and 2 smongrel studs (st John water dogs) from the earl of malmesbury (Canadian imported cross breeds). The only only colour recognised was black. But as people bred in other breeds to develop the dogs traits chocolate and red emerged. All dogs are mongrels!!!!! They are mix of other animals to develop physical and mental traits to improve a “breed” and as for been the brainchild of an idiot I suggest you read more veterinary studies and less Facebook, the 4 genetic examinations of “silver Labrador’s carrying the dd gene shows no abnormal dna influence including the Weimaraner breed. Your whole response is the reason I asked for owners opinions rather than Facebook experts but thanks anyway

:lol: My my, one has got ones panties in a wad, hasn't one? There's a reason you don't see silver Labradors in the UK, and that's because it's a bloody stupid idea. You don't have to be a genetic expert to understand that . . . .

No I simply asked for informed replies, not the general opinion of Facebook experts. There was a reason you didn’t see fox reds as well, but I wouldn’t call myself or the 4 mates than run fox reds “idiots” while I agree change is not always good, objecting to it on an uneducated basis is simply moronic.

That's hilarious, but I fully agree. Some bright spark must have introduced greyhound into the mix at sometime, which in my opinion did work, but I really don't like 'designer' dogs.

Neither myself, nor the vast majority of reputable Labrador breeders across the entire planet object to this bastardisation of the breed on an 'uneducated basis'. If it's controversy you're seeking my friend, you've found it

But the whole basis of your debate is completely floored, I was neither seeking controversy nor your opinion as per my original post, I’m looking for actual real world experience not your opinion of what you read on Facebook or your mate told you. But you obviously just enjoy replying so feel free

I freely admit to being a simple person, so my analogy should be simple too...

If i buy a ferrari and stick a ford V8 engine in to it because i think i can do a better job at making it sound better, go better, set up the balance of the the car for all to enjoy, then i may have made a better car....or a worse car.
The day i go to sell it, should i expect more money from the sale?
Would i have a que line outside my door wanting to buy it?

Just a thought from my simple brain....

all dogs a mix match of what went before. i really dont get the disgust about a silver coloured lab. if the breed had been looked after in the 80s and 90s would it have all the crap hips and need health checks before mating?

Hmmm. Then add in the rather unseemly rush to make a lot of money from the lock-down “must have a puppy” very short-term notion and vets will be making a fortune in a couple of years……..
