Single empty case, for the shelf.

Just as a little query to go with this thread...... I have a clip of 5 cases from WW2 which have A F 29 and 30 on the bases. I was always under the impression that they were either .30 cal or .303 cal but am a bit baffled with the lettering and numbering.
Any ideas?
And would they be of any interest for the collection?
Yes they would! Will try and find out more. There is a site online detailing .303 headstamps. Years ago metal detecting, I found a few old .303 cases buried in fields the home guard trained in; around the village I grew up in. They were all blanks. One was made at an English bicycle works, another from ishapore India. I still have them on my mantlepiece.

Thanks for that, very helpful - this might also fit in with the information from @Stalker1962 . I think it would be likely that in 1944/45 the Allies would have taken any ammo from anywhere and the clip may well have come back with my Dad after his time in Burma and then India.
If you want them, just drop me a PM with address, cheers.

Have had a look and the clip of five you sent me appear to be 30/06.
They are rimless - and match my existing example. Headstamps certainly look military issue.

Thanks for clearing that one up @hammo, di wonder what they were as my Dad said he'd used American weaponry as well as the usual SMLE/Bren .303.
Following another delve through the boxes of bits, I came upon the single case and clip shown in the photo - I assume that it will be .303 with K1941 and GII on the base?DSC01937.webpDSC01938.webp
