I’ll be sorry to see you go Stan, and I would ask you to reconsider. As others have said, your experience and knowledge are highly valued and would be greatly missed.
The reality is that a site like this attracts all sorts, including some who hold opinions and beliefs that others will find distasteful or even downright bigoted. However, just like society, the site has yet to be created that attracts only those whose opinions every other member will agree with. What a boring site that would be!
If you feel a thread is becoming a public embarrassment then let site Admin know by using the Report option. In my experience they exercise good judgement in terms of locking and removing threads, being very aware of how some members posts and comments could be wilfully used by others to tar us all with the same brush.
Another option, if you find a particular thread distasteful, is to simply ignore it, or put on ignore those members whose opinions you disagree with.
Of course any decision to leave a site is a balance between the enjoyment it provides on the one hand and the distaste that some members can generate on the other - something that will be down to each individual.
Your quality of life might well improve by no longer having to read posts that betray both the prejudices and ignorance that seem endemic in modern society, but against that you will lose out on the camaraderie and friendship of those - the silent majority - who simply come here to meet like-minded folk and learn more about the fascinating world that is deer and deer stalking.
Keep in mind that the site has over 25,000 members, which is quite some achievement. It is sadly inevitable therefore that a loud-mouthed few will occasionally, and sometimes repeatedly, rise to the surface. That they do this here is because they only feel safe to do so behind the cloak of anonymity.
Whatever choice you make, to leave or stay, I wish you the very best.
