Skinning Muntjac

That's interesting... I agree it makes them harder to skin but what makes you say this?
They dry out if you leave them in the fridge too long skinned, very little fat cap and small. Try it you might like it.

I skin ASAP hanging from back hocks, butcher into primal joints, then fridge, very shortly after a day or 2 bone everything out batch into 3.8kg ready for bangers and burgers.

I thank you all for your comments. Nothing that I haven't tried before has been said so it seems that tugging , pulling and profanity will continue into the future. I do agree that doing them as soon as possible helps, particularly if you have a young one to deal with, but when faced with an old buck nothing seems to make any difference. I did think about using the muscle power of my young son, as suggested above, but my young son is 61 years old and lives on the other side of the country to me. Don't think that will help very much. As I distribute most of my venison to the 'donating' farmers, friends and neighbours, with the rest going to deserving villagers I don't think I am going to get much assistance from that quarter either. No, it will just have to be slash and swear until the CWD and Roe's come back into season in November. But munties are excellent eating whatever their age.

Defo skin when warm, hung by hooks. Tend to shoulder shoot munties so cut the carcass there as little meat on the shoulder and focus on saddle and haunches.
Just noticed this last reply paulbshooting. You have a point. I rarely take a head or neck shot on munties. They are never still for long enough to guarantee the shot. This does mean damage to the front end and, as you say, there is very little to be had from the shoulder. So, particularly when I've got two or three to deal with at one time, it is probably worth considering discarding the front end altogether. This is where most of the time is wasted when skinning. I'll definitely give this some thought. Don't like discarding good meat but one has to be realistic about things.

Remember seeing a video of how they do it with the crocodile by pumping in compressed air in between the skin and meat. Wondering if its something that could be tried on the munties unless of course they explode and goes from carcass to minced meat skipping the stages in the middle.
Tried it works quite well with a blower pipe on the end but make sure you use a oil free compressor or it will be like sucking diesel unless the meat is for the mother in law!

I tend not to skin my mother in laws but feed them directly to the crocodiles 🤣🤣.
Joking aside I try and skin muntys the same day .
Again hanging from hooks ,older ones the skin is superglued to the fur anyway.
