"Support", does not mean they are actively involved with or have a financial commitment to it.

As has already been mentioned, there a more pressing issues:
Dog thefts..
Rogue FLO's..
The complete waste of Police time in one for one variations.
R & D for the replacement of lead..
Laws like they have in States protecting legitimate shooters from harassment.
Places to shoot.
just a few that sprung mind on this cold Sunday morning..

Have just taken a look at them online. The ones for sale tend to describe themselves as 'wire-free', and are simply a bit of paper, some dowel/bamboo, and fireproof string.

Can't see how they are any more harmful from a littering or livestock-ingestion perspective than fireworks. Certainly less harmful than plastic shotgun wads (carrying all that eco-friendly steel shot).

Would also have assumed that the majority burn out while airborne, hence why we haven't all been burned to death in our beds.

I don't really care about these lanterns, but they make some people happy. I'm not sure I'd want to take that away from them.

PS I love fireworks. Would hate to see them banned too on the back of this.

All that said, please join my campaign against roll-mops on twitter: #vomit-fish.
Just when I thought you were okay you come out as a roll-mo-phobe.

Roll mops are a healthy and delicious snack you can eat on the go or as part of a larger balanced meal. Roll mops support our fishing, vinegar and onion farming industry. Now cows have ever died from eating roll mops and they have never set fire to any thatched roofed houses.

There is nothing I like better while launching a flotilla of sky lanterns than chowing down on pickled herring.

Just as an aside, why have they been re-branded from 'Chinese lanterns' to 'Sky lanterns'?

Am on a break from digging in a railway-sleeper strainer-post; therefore feeling the need to focus on life's big issues.

Sky lant

Want to tell that to this horse owner?

No, I don’t think I’d do that but I wouldn’t ban them either, it’s the equivalent of trying to ban throwing rocks, you want to punish people who abuse the privilege but you don’t want the guy teaching his kids to skim stones across a lake or at the sea side punished.Or at least I wouldn’t.
The release of sky lanterns here is regulated and licensed, but I’ve never heard of a licence being refused or someone charged because they don’t have one, a law that you can’t enforce is a waste of ink.

If you can't buy them . . . .
Exactly.

How anyone can compare throwing stones to letting a burning object fly off into the countryside, having no control over, and worse, no regard to where its going to land is beyond me. Perhaps I expect too much of my fellow man. With such intellect at work the only recourse is to ban their sale altogether.

Thank you BASC in supporting this.

Easy to make from brown paper (for the envelope) a bit of glue, some thin wire and some cotton wool soaked in meths. I remember seeing it in an old book of "Things to do" my Son was given when he was younger.

A children's book !

Having actually seen one of these lanterns set fire to a field of hay waiting to be bailed I'm in no doubt, ban the bloody things.

I posted sometime ago, with pics, of a Ewe who’s oily wool caught fire on her back due to a flaming lantern landing squarely on her and tangling in the wool.
She had to be put down.

WB.

I have to admit that I’m amazed at the amount of heat generated by this particular thread.
Enough hot air to launch an armada of balloons....🎈🎈🎈🎈
I’m also very much amused 😄😄.
How long before Al Queda recognises the potential and weaponises them?
