Just out of interest, what is the square speech bubble looking thing on the bottom left of a post? Next to 'reply with quotes'.

When I pressed it, it had a tick on it? What does that mean?

It's multiquote... you can tick that next to a few posts and when you click reply at the bottom of the page it will quote all the posts you have ticked.
