Been doing a fair amount of control of the grey menace in recent weeks and had some decent bags sat in a hide watching a purpose made feeder .Peanuts for bait ,hide set 21 m away .
All squirrels frozen for a mate who has a Harris hawk .

Evening
Good work !

I shoot multiple feeders - alternating between sitting waiting in the landrover to having an evening walking up with the hushpower

I accounted for well over a hundred last year

A little thin on the ground this year but still well into the 30s

Another recent outing on the greys .Airgun ,hw100 .
Anyone else shoot a feeder from a hide .
Yes. Only 2 the other morning, but I have been hammering them at this location for a couple of years now and numbers are undoubtedly reduced

Planning on going out tomorrow morning to another location I have a feeder at.

Love spending time sat in a hide watching nature .The wood I’m concentrating on now has never been shot
67 since February .Two jays and a magpie .Very good method of control I reckon .

No one ever bothered in our woodland so in January I made some feeders of scrap 3" steel pipe with a half inch hole in the bottom with a checker plate base.
This week I got to 123 squirrels since Feb 1st whenI I started shooting just wonder how many eggs and songbird chicks are alive now than would have been if I hadn't started shooting them.
I used thick pipe so the dummy doesn't destroy the trap.
All from my farm scrap heap and all it cost me was 2 welding rods to tack them together.
Sit for 2 hrs after lunch never had less than six per sitting.

Good work, what are you baiting with and what size plate is the base, are the sides bent up to form a lip?
They sound like a pretty good, simple feeder.

In my experience avoid wheat unless you have a trap door to contain it .First ever fill I did was with wheat and the buggers scratched 3/4 of it on the floor .Peanuts or whole grain maize is my choice ,peanuts just having the edge I’d say but expensive if you’ve a lot about and birds aren’t prevented from taking it too .I’m going to try a spot of aniseed from now on as visitors getting much slower .Going to put another feeder in a bottle neck leading to other woods not owned by the farmer I’m controlling for .Amazing the numbers about if left to breed uncontrolled .

Plate is 6"x 4" 3MM thick no edge turn up but have an e!electrical back box as a tray in front of the hole
Tried maize which they just scuff out onto the ground for the pheasants.
I find peanuts work amazingly well.

Peanuts are expensive, so is wheat for that matter.
On a pheasant shoot squirrels are always raiding the pheasant feeders .
So a circuit every week or so with the .22 keeps them under control

I've recently set up a feed site that is principally for squirrels. It's in a block of woodland where I manage the deer. The squirrels have never been controlled so there are plenty about. I'm using an old pheasant feeder that I pulled out of a redundant pheasant pen. I will soon put up a more suitable feeder that the squirrels won't chew and the fallow won't hammer. I'm using whole maize. I've very recently put up a seat about 40m away. My 1st visit yielded 8 greys and a rabbit and a 2nd flying visit between showers yielded 3. I had shot a dozen or so before putting up the seat. The sun has just come out so I reckon I'm going for my 3rd sit before the rain returns.

I've been away for a few days and noticed on my field cam that, along with deer, fox, badger and pheasants, there were more squirrels hitting my feed site. Sat in my seat this mid-morning and had 6 inside an hour. That's 36 from this site.
