I took the photo's today,despite the the road being like a skating rink. I mamaged to get a lift in a land rover, we were on a tight schedule so not as many pictures as i would of liked..
The last picture shows the ground from the SW and the land stretches to the skyline, although you never get a true perspective from a photo you can see that it is quite substantial..
The first picture shows the ground from the East and the skyline is the boundary.
The other 2 show restock and a few other satellite woods..
What it deosn't it the extent of the ground and the mature sitka spruce on the North/South and Western boundaries..

Sorry to say Neil your 50 mile rule is a load of crap, you won't be shooting it then, or is it double standards as you live on the door step.
50 miles thats anyone from Glasgow or the other way about Carlisle as the crow flies ,so your doing really doing well out of it ,absent stalkers apart from the weekends, good if you can get it all your own way ,what about all the guys on your own door step, that can't get shooting for the guys who are absent 90% of the time because they live way down south.
The stalking is well priced out of there pocket of the locals due to forestry companies and absent stalking syndicates with only a few visits per year most of the syndicate lease holders are winning the watch .

I just want to add some support for what griff is doing here as there has been some negative comments and I believe we need to be seen to be supporting someone who is doing something positive for all stalkers. I've no association with griff, have never met him, and while I'd love to take him up on the offer don't think I can this time.
However, for someone like myself who is relatively new to the sport of stalking how do you suggest we get a chance? Or perhaps that is the problem and some people are playing the "it were tough when I were a lad, you had to be stalking for 25 years before you got to go out on your own and even then you had to carry a hundredweight of spuds on your back" card?
I can see absolutely no down side to what griff is offering and he is doing his best to manage the possible greedy individual so everyone gets a fair crack at the whip. I'd love to take him up on the offer, although living in Northern Ireland I might actually be closer than 50 miles as the crow flies, but the cost of the ferry crossings is the only thing putting me off making application. However, the work that griff has done on this has given me some food for thought and I am going to see if I can figure out a way that might allow me to take up any future, similar, offers. Let's hope for the sake of all keen and reasonable stalkers that griff considers is worthwhile to present us with future offers of this type. In view of some of the comments I can easily see why he might be inclined to take his offers elsewhere.

50 mile rule
I have just joined the forum but I have been stalking for a few years now. For one I must agree with the 50 mile rule. It gives a better chance to those of us who live a good distance away. I was a member of a syndicate near Peebles and found that two guys who lived down the road were on the land nearly every week.
I too applaud Griff's hard work in sorting all the land, paperwork and organisation out for the syndicate. There are plenty of stalkers myself included who do not have the dedication to undertake such a task.
I have pm'd Griff my details as it certainly looks a nice bit of deerstalking land.

Both JAYB and myself bought this site to promote stalking and help out those less fortunate who do not have their own areas, and also to help folk in general. IF you can help like minded folk in this wonderful sport we all love and enjoy then its all for the good, just look at what we all have achieved on here in less than a year of us taking this site over.
The membership has doubled in less than a year, WHY because folk are willing to help each other out, where else would you get an offer like Griffs.

I have known griff a while he is one of the most genuine people on the sight he has the stalking on the other side of the road as well . Me and my son called in to see him last year while stalking in the borders we were greeted with open arms wined and dined at his house and had an evening stalk on his land next to this bit . Knowing the potential of the ground i have put my name down for a place dont know if i will be accepted but wait to see . Lets get thsi in perspective 3500 acres stalking £475
three days pheasant shooting £ 375
unlimited woodccck shooting £ 100 a day on isla
Stocked trout lock unlimited access £200 in a small water in england
the use of a larder and processing room invaluable in the buck season
alevel 2 witness on sight nearly
Add all this up £1100 at least and you think its to expensive move down to england and see what people pay down here .
£475 all in a BARGAIN the only provision you stay at the farm house to give the farmer some extra income . And before you say its may be the only stalking i have i have access to 30,000 acres in Argyle
run two pheasant shoots in the midlands
6000 acres in the borders stalking
10, 000 round home stalking and game shooting
and live next to a large trout fishery in the midlands . So i do know the cost of things in the real world .I think this is a bargain even if i dont get in MUDDY

I'm not a person to get on his soapbox, but I find it amazing that some are finding fault with the deal that griff is putting together. I don't know the guy so I have no axe to grind. Believe me, if I were less distance from the area in question I would jump at the chance being made available to SD members. This guy does not need to do this, I doubt he would have any problem getting takers at double the price on the open market. Just look again at what is being offered for £475-----unbelievable. Griff-- good on yer mate.

I for one have expressed an interest in this opportunity. I am waiting to get more details, as are others and whether I get a response back to Griff in time etc only time will tell!
I was very surprised by the negative tone of some of the posts. Why such opposition? Griff seems prepared to offer something that will be a benefit to others in a genuine spirit of helpfulness. He should be applauded not chastised. I live a long way from Griff's location but would certainly be prepared to make the effort to take advantage of the significant opportunities offered. I live a lot more than 50 miles away, but could certainly expect to visit during weekdays (holidays) as well as long weekends.
I have found in life that the pleasure that comes out is pretty much in proportion to the effort put in. I have had a great time over the past year travelling from South of England up to Scotland to stalk, do DSC1 etc. All very rewarding and for a three day stay in Scotland, there is about four days driving (slow Landrover).
I have met lots of new people from different walks of life and all have been helpful; including helping me with my FAC application. Most people still place a value on being helpful to others. Without people who are prepared to make that effort to help, it would be a depressing and sad world.
To Griff and all the others who have made similar offers in threads on this site; keep it up. You can never please everyone!

Just to clarify; my initial post was not designed to cast aspersions, criticise Griff's motivation or otherwise generate the kind of negative bull**** that posts on stalking forums seem to attract.
However, I don't personally concur with the arbitary 50 mile business. A stalker 400 miles away is just as disadvantaged by a syndicate member who lives 51, 70 or 200 miles fom the beat, and that same stalker 400 miles away could rip the erse out of it just as much as a stalker living just a few miles up the road - and I imagine be a little less likely to lie out at night shooting foxes, checking traps, feeding birds etc. I would have thought that attracting good quality, decent members with a common purpose and a degree of self restraint and sportsmanship might have been a more useful tactic. Easier said than done perhaps.
In any event Dumfriesshire is a fantastic part of a fantastic country - christ, it's very nearly Ayrshire! Good luck to those involved.
