Wanted: Stalking for soldiers

Another recommendation for Jim at DGVM, reasonable prices and a great range to add some practise too.

If you and all you are helping to get into deer managment are serving members then I am sure a member of the DDM will come along soon enough and give you the correct information required. As for someone telling you you cannot join because you had less than five years to serve..........................enquire again.

PM if needs be.

Regards

I have a small amount of Fallow stalking in Sussex and Kent. They would be welcome to come along on a cull, join in a stalk and maybe sit in a high seat. Share in the Craic and see how it goes. I shall attempt a small cull soon but next big cull will be November/December.
I don't charge but any help in maintaining the stalking would be appreciated but not obligatory.
PM

I am a royal marine. I contacted the ddm, they want you to hold a dsc1 be a member of bds, Have fac with deer cal and rifle. Be willing to give 20 weekends before being put on waiting list. Then you will Work on management qual. Gain dsc2 in a time frame and commit to the ddm when needed.

Here is some of the criteria from DDM, steyr.308 as it says, minimum 5 years left to serve.

The MOD set the criteria for DDM membership which stipulates that in order to be eligible applicants are required to be Crown Servants in permanent MOD employment. If you are a member of the Regular Armed Services, or MOD Civil Service, with a minimum of 5 years service remaining and you are interested in DDM, please contact the DDM Membership Secretary at the address below:

I don't agree with that statement

I know members of the group that are not members of the military or the civil service that are DDM members they may of been in the past.

I do agree its a private stalking club/face fit club

Unfortunately, and am sad to have agree, but this is about as 'discriminating' as it gets and DDM seem to be in the dark ages, and have been through the same deal; what would I know about shooting... Shame as there are some good blokes involved, but I have met more people who have been 'chinned off' (you put it so well) than have been able to join.

Don't worry it will get sold off eventually to Bullingdon chums!

Stalking isn't cheap for anyone, but good luck with the search.
If you ever want to get into driven game shooting, drop me a PM in June, we run a Services Shoot which is a little more accommodating within range of your area.

Cheers Rick, been game shooting for a few years now, mainly rough with my mental Springer and a couple of mates here but done some driven up in Yorkshire and Yardley Chase.

Currently applying for DDM but expecting to wait 2 years until a place comes up but it is certainly not easy to join and this makes it somewhat inaccessible for many, particularly junior soldiers. In the meantime I will be paying for some local stalking and get onto DSC

Dom8328, PM sent ref some more local shooting.

It's not so much an Officers or WO's club.
It is more a matter of who is in a position to take time off, re-arrange their working hours or able to make 'phone calls or write reports during 'normal' working hours.
Being called out during the working day to attend an RTA or some other Deer related incident is likely to get an answer from your line manager to the effect of "DDM work is all voluntary and must be carried out in your own time"

So are you saying officers and wo's are the only people who can take time off, arrange their lives, write reports, make telephone calls etc during the normal working day?

If it wasn't so word of mouth then surely in an 18yr career why did I only see it advertised in soldier magazine once, then when I enquired was told I needed at least 5yrs left to serve to join, granted you require people who can put the time in to qualify but when you disappear on tour after tour, surely a civilian job could afford the same amount or more time to qualify and give something back to DDM.
