Stalking Knives

I went with Guy Stainthorp when I wanted a custom knife.

At least with the knives from the named individuals are made by them. They aren’t cookie cutter examples made by several employees carrying out different tasks. The one man band outfit means you are able to change certain aspect like the tang taper or weight. You can choose the steel that works for you. In fact you can change pretty much anything.

Worth checking out Guy’s instagram account

My apologies Sensei

Like every other member on here I bow to your wisdom . After a life time of shooting and hunting it appears I know nothing 😉😂
So am I wrong? You appear to be another that thinks that you must be doing it right purely because you have been doing it for a long time? Every day is a school day my friend.

I’m with you on this one. Folding knives have no place in stalking. The EKA swing blade is one of biggest gripes. The whole swing process pushes detritus into the handle.

I’ve got Mora’s which I personally hate. The only cheap knife I would have now days is the Victorinox butchers knives. Far easier to keep sharp.

Everyone knows you need a gentleman’s knife like mine…..
All jokes aside, any high end knife will be good…. Get the one YOU like

No not at all but the OP was asking what knives people use and preferred. Some one posts a picture of his knife and you wade in telling him he is wrong perhaps you could of just posted something along the lines of
“ I actually use a knife that has a synthetic handle as they are more hygienic and easier to clean. Some models are relatively cheap and offer good value”
Therefore offering an opinion without appearing to show yourself as the font of all knowledge when by your own admission you haven’t really been at this for very long.
I think this has been pointed out to you quite a few times. I agree every day is a school day so let this be todays education for you.
It may prevent you coming across as a weapons grade throbber in the future. Not a personal insult just an observation of many.

jimmer, I wasn’t after War and Peace! I am right as is usually the case because, unlike many on here, if I don’t know I don’t post rather than just posting horlicks for the sake of it (as I have posted many times). Even those who have been doing this all their life (although they obviously haven’t and it’s absolutely irrelevant anyway) can poison people you know. The knife posted has no place in stalking and is a health hazard. Have a good day.

What do you call modestly priced in terms of finding a knife using Elmax as the steel? Brisa do a Trapper 115 in Elmax with a flat grind for around £200. If you can put up with a Scandi grind, they do one around the £170 mark. Good steel and good knives.
'Modest' for me would be sub £50
Therefore the search for a 'modestly priced' Elmax Steel Hunting knife continious! ;)

I have just had my first full custom made and it was a fascinating thoroughly enjoyable experience. I went with Danum blades, I would highly recommend.

The ability to choose length, materials, blade profile, grind etc goes towards the perfect knife for the chosen application. I went with a comparatively long thin blade for sticking red deer and tunnelling out.

I was never able to find a flat grind trapper in Elmax! Pity…

I find many expensive knives are often not that convenient for cutting because they have very thick blade that is way thicker than a normal kitchen knife. Yes, they are tough, but cheaper knives with thinner and shorter blades are often much more comfortable to cut
