Stalking locked down?

Well the reality is here in our village I don't know how many other folk are infected but we spoke to a young couple with two kids we were on the road from there house they believe one of the youngsters got it from nursery two miles away so this is how easy it goes and past it to them .
A great many old folk in our village and believe me they haven't got the two meter spacing I'm afraid at all how ever you try and explain it to them .

Seems strange that it was only a few weeks ago that farmers were told that they were "unnecessary" as we could import all of our food.
Quite a turnaround of opinion in a short space of time.
I must say it's nice to be appreciated for once.

I'm a full time stalker/ranger and just had a call from the head forester saying stay at home tomorrow until they come up with a plan for the next three weeks. Bit worried about the thousands of trees planted on the estate since Christmas since the rabbits are breeding like mad and I'm still a few does short of my target, but you have to put things in perspective.
Heard on the grape vine some of the lads in another department had been sent home today with symptoms so I imagine it'll be company policy now!

I honestly thought I would carry on culling deer, rabbits and killing vermin on the estate as I could be more or less solitary.
Having looked around today at the thousands of idiots walking about my mind has been changed.
I saw 11 magpies together and over 100 Fallow in one field this afternoon but I am afraid traps will be emptied tomorrow and rifles locked away. It grieves me but I feel it is necessary to isolate completely.

Sitting on one's posterior for several weeks (or months...) can kill anyone. Think strokes, DVT, heart attacks...

Shooting & stalking can both be accomplished without being anywhere near another person, so I see no need to restrict them, so long as it's a solitary activity.

I'm not sure we should be looking for ways around these measures. Deer eat a few more trees, foxes eat a few more lambs, and pigeons pick at a few more seedlings. Who cares? What matters is that we all stay home as much as possible and do our bit to protect our country.

Each day in the UK there are about 70 people seriously injured in traffic accidents. Let's say each one requires 10 days in hospital that is 700 hospital days, per day, being generated by people using the roads. what happens if no one goes on the road? 70 beds freed up per day. Say people wander about the street playing sport and injuring themselves? Say people hang out together and catch other diseases that require hospital treatment? All these things will be a factor in whether you and your family survive this, this is not for fun.

So follow CarlW's advice - protect yourself and your country and stop playing with words to try and make going stalking seem legit.

I suggest you listen again to what was said: Solitary exercise was stated to be a justification for leaving home & you don't get more solitary than up the hills with a rifle.

Not all of us have to travel anywhere to go shooting - I am next to a farm with lambs who appreciate help. I also have a fox caller and 20 odd acres to lure the predators and manage a few rabbits. Often see fallow at the bottom of the field so when I go shooting I put no -one at risk - dont lets be too quick to judge. i doubt anyone on here is stupid enough to put others at risk.

Things would be simplified should some part of government, e.g. DEFRA, make a statement indicating that protection of forestry, crops etc,. is "essential". Can't see it being on anyone's priority list though.

I was about to start a new lease from April and renew another but you know how some people are..... if you can't go stalking...... not my problem.....your problem

And they'll still expect the lease paid........

Maybe I'm sceptical........ maybe someone will surprise me. Will find out in the coming days.

For the foreseeable I imagine poachers and the less scrupulous out there are not about to take heed of the latest advice. Them knowing that the legitimate stalker/sportsman is not going to be around allows them almost free rein.
Most of my ground is fairly remote and is visited by me regularly. Not for some time now though it won't be ! The landowners appreciate another pair of eyes about the place and you being around deters the scurrilous !
On a different note, if ever there were a time for the 'shooting community' to be viewed in a positive, responsible light, then this is it !! Individuals attempting to circumnavigate the advice and then being 'pulled-up' would make for rather bad publicity. Our detractors would make the most of it !

We go on about how we FAC holders are the most law abiding and sensible responsible people out there after all we are deemed it to own guns. Yet people couldn’t heed advise so now we are told what we have to do, so a portion of the law abiding responsible people don’t like being told what to do, imagine the press and anti reaction to a stalker or shooter being stopped by the police, own goal or what And we moan about the organisations for failing us yet some on here are beating them hands down.

If you can get there without driving and make sure you don’t get injured, I think it’s reasonable. Most need to drive to get to their ground. I can shoot on land adjacent to my house, and will do so, but I won’t drive to other permissions.

Unfortunately, people are looking for the gaps in the latest advice; I think the exercise “clause” could do with clarification such as “exercise locally, not driving to Snowdon or the seaside (as happened here in Wales, in great numbers.)

meet for the family is essential ! plus getting exercise all in one trip out ... guessing soon we will need a chitty to leave home with a legal excuse , just some of the challenges we now face if we all stand together and stand strong we can face this horrible situation together and full on !! We need to support each other how ever we can , share true information not rumours

You need to do what the government is asking you to do. Stay at home. Going to the supermarket for essential food isn’t the same as deer stalking.............but good luck with trying to convince the authorities otherwise. I shan’t be standing with you on that one.

Well all I can say is this, when quite a few have been caught stalking, which is neither exercise, necessary work, or going out to buy food, and the police who have quite a lot to do making sure everyone keeps to the rules laid down, don't be surprised if the Police ask for and get blanket temporary ban on all FAC.s, and those that are caught, don't be surprised if when your renewal comes up it's turned down, what has been put in place to try and stop this virus from spreading, has been done because people will not act sensibly, do not give the likes of Chwis and his cohorts ammunition to shoot you down for good, let the deer, rabbits, foxes, have their way for the next month or so, then it will be obvious to the anti-hunting brigade just how important we are.

Just stay at home folks. It does go against the grain, but sacrifices have to be made. It's really not worth it and the cops will have far better things to be doing than stopping your car to enquire what you are up to and then have an argument/discussion on what's essential. As law abiding certificate holders, the best thing to be doing is not only complying with the law, but setting an example.

My wife is a nurse who works on an intensive care unit and my son (living at home) is an essential lorry driver. I am really worried for them both and to a lesser degree myself. Stalking and other field sports will simply have to wait.
