stalking sticks ?

jcf1, where did you find your oak staffs, been looking all over for ash or oak and im struggling, thank swayne.

I'm hoping my old man can source some nice ash ones - he faffs about with wood a lot.

But you can get oak or ash staffs cheap-ish online if you look for "bo staffs" - most martial arts places do them. They need to be decentish hardwood as they take a few knocks - most are oak. That's what I'm going to experiment with until I get it right - I bought 2, then I'll source some nicer timber for it.

Magnets were evilbay. Pegs and dowel: timberframing supplies - they use oak ones.

you will get decent ash sticks from the traditional agricultural merchants shops . They are sold as fork handles (not 4 candles as per the 2 ronnies) not gardening forks but pitchforks or as long handles for hay rakes.
got my magnets from www.first4magnets.com. quick reliable service

sticks

Just had some 1.4 mtr hazel stick making blanks, off e bay, looking at a friends metal extending sticks, they are fastened at the pivot point with a through bolt, & they are never closed down to much of a degree, so I am going to get an exhaust system bungee today to use for the pivot as most of the dairy rubbers are perished, enabling me to adjust hight if needed, might be a quicker system than twisting & pulling legs in & out.

Hmmmm I wonder how Willow would do for this? I am about to prune a couple and there are some lengths of about 3 1/2 Dia and some smaller ones Perhaps I should dry a couple and see how they go. When I next visit my patch down south I will cut a bundle of Hazel to brign back and dry.
