Makes total sense. I assume I'll just see how I get on with the 243 and work out whether I need anything bigger. I was in two minds about going for a bigger calibre, and in hindsight not sure going smaller was the right decision to be honest. But it's with Kent police now, so we'll see.

I reckon you’ve got a better shot of a successful application with a smaller calibre. The police are an odd one in that they deem a .243 as a “safer” calibre than .308 etc. Reality is that either is safe in the right hands and both are equally dangerous in the hands of an idiot.
 
@Suffolk stalker had the visit from my firearms officer today, seems like a green light. Sounded like he would have been happy with a 6.5x55 but basically wanted to hear why I wanted the calibre I asked for, was satisfied with my rationale and said as a stalker he thought 243 was totally adequate. Took my SGC to make it coterminous so I'm talking that as a yes.

Seems to be some confusion here!
I thought I was Suffolk Stalker on this site.

Apologies, didn’t mean to tread on your toes re name when I signed up. Didn’t realise there was another with a similar name! Nice to meet you though, where about in Suffolk are you?
 
No need to apologise, it’s just that it could lead to misunderstandings, my leases are around Bury St Edmunds, but I live in North Essex.
