What will be next ?
Killing swans is illegal in this country. I don't give a hoot what they do in their own.Heaven forbid that anyone would want to hunt for their food. Tut tut! Whatever next? How shocking!
swans in england are the property of the crown and are protected by law as far as i knowAre swans legal quarry where they come from, they are here.
The UK isn't an 'area of desperate poverty' though, by any stretch of the imagination, and immigrants of any origin are expected and required to both know and abide by the law. As with so many things though, self-entitlement seems to be sufficient justification as long as the victim card can be played. These types of things are not out of character for people coming from areas of desperate poverty the likes of which we first worlders can't seem to fathom
Definitely so! I was a skipper on the pleasure steamers (Owned by Salter's Steamers) "The Mary Stewart" and "The Sonning" (The Sonning is now at Newark and still doing pleasure trips to the best of my knowledge) which were used for the "Swan Upping" on the Thames at reading many years ago where all the swans are counted and the yearlings rung each year. - They are classed as "Property of The Crown" so IF the story is true then it should class as "Theft from the Monarchy"!swans in england are the property of the crown and are protected by law as far as i know
Some also belong to the beneficiaries of the Ilchester Estate at Abbotsbury, currently The Hon. Mrs Charlotte Townshend. Birds destined for the table were raised in fresh water and not allowed into the salt water of the Fleet.swans in england are the property of the crown and are protected by law as far as i know
Swans above the tidal range of the Thames or property of the Monarch. Not sure on the legislation around “snow geese” elsewhereswans in england are the property of the crown and are protected by law as far as i know
possible 6 months inside and possible unlimited fineI think swans belonging to the monarch is a thing. But in any case, I don't think they have ever appeared on any general licence. So I would say if you nab a swan you should be getting the same sort of punishment as someone caught killing birds of prey.
