Starting to get more greys again

looks from your text that you're keen to get out after squirrels with an air rifle K. Just wondered what your preferred set up was?

When not using a .22 Rimfire:

I expect I have shoot thousands with an air rifle. S100, .22 is silent and deadly, best time is now sunny still day and you can spot them as they crash through the canopy. 2 shooters are best. Sit quietly and let things settle down and after 15-20mins it will come alive. Like other mammals they have regular paths though their territories so you can ambush them. often they get vocal and if so you can use a squirrel call to good effect esp if you got one hiding. Be carefull to scan high up and a good pair of bins is a bonus. In winter when all the leaves are off drey poking with 2 or 3 shooters with air rifles can be very effective and great fun. I have my own custom set of aly poles will go up to 80ft if need be, thats a v tall tree!!!

Yes a Burris compact with paralex down to 10 yards. If I'm honest I hate the trigger on this rifle like no other and will trade up to a Daystate one day.

Peanuts?? We don't need no god damned peanuts!!

Get out there and engage in some life-enhancing treetop stalking. With an air rifle and not a 22 rimfire of course!

I get out there and engage them every day mate , with traps , guns and poison in season . Its not about sport its about getting rid of as many as possible . Grey squirrels are a major pest to forrestry and agriculture they compete with hole nesting birds for obviouse reasons they also eat eggs and chicks aswell as the red squirrel problems . If you have shooting rights anywhere get out and kill as many tree rats as you can . The best gun ive found for the job is a silenced mossberg 410 pump action . Start the year drey poking in febuary then follow this with baited traps then follow this with warfarin poisoning , start one end of your shoot and work across it 1 wood at a time and if you can work with your neighbours with it and youll make a difference . As for calls the primos 3 in 1 works and if you use the squeeker call it works for muntjac . What about a national squirrel day instead of pigeons ?

Thanks for the steer Mr. Trouble

I will though stick with the rifle.

Agree we could do with one, several woods I used to control greys in are now owned by the misinformed, one wants to run a wood but does not want the greys or deer controlled, pointed out she could have one/two but not all so no nesting birds and all the regenerating trees are scuppered, no way to show people if they don't want to see.

Anyway if anybody needs a squirrel drey poking team in South Glos this winter pm me and we can see what we can do.

wont be until after pheasant shooting but i'll let you know . If your neighbours wont let you on run poison hoppers along the boundry in the season , squirrels travel a long way when times are hard
