Stay safe out there chaps!

Glad you are on the mend fella.

This has focused the mind on first aid. I already carry a kit with me if on a long stalk or in the car if just pottering around but I will check it ASAP and make sure it’s up to spec. Thankfully never had a really bad cut but a good pal did recently. The last time I finished one with a knife was a little more eventful than I had planned so I’m in the ‘shoot it again’ mind frame, this has reaffirmed that!

Glad that you're doing well.

There seems to be the usual myths surrounding first aid being regurgitated here. Would people be interested in a stop the bleed type course taught by people who actually walk the walk daily? Esp if it was focused on self help?
I would definitely, Eddie.

Started off as a very pleasant morning stalk.
Now in hospital with pretty serious knife stick injury (self inflicted) and considerable blood loss after walking half a mile carrying all my kit, unable to staunch the flow.
It's a dangerous world out there! Stay safe, chaps.
Oh deer get well soon

Well the outside is healing up OK, thanks for asking! Hopefully the inside is too! It's all splinted up still, and will be for a while to come.
Lots of physio coming up, to try to get the thumb moving properly again.
Still a long way to go.
Nice to hear it's healing, presumably it's left hand so you can still pull the trigger 👀 good luck mate, I'm sure you will be well underway to being sorted/back up to scratch in a few months 🤞

Listen to the physio people I started off with no movement in my finger and now have 90 percent back. The physio people were brilliant I owe them big time because I make my living with my hands.

last Friday I completed my EFAW+F and have just ordered a trauma first aid kit. I am also going to start carrying an EPIRB as this was suggested on the course.

This thread definitely gave me food for thought.
EPIRB I have been using one for a good few years. As luck never needed to use it.

Was a good few years ago but cut my thumb off clean through the bone, the only thing keeping it attached was the Web of flesh between thumb and fore finger, but the surgeons and physio did a great job and everything works as it should. Good luck with the recovery 👍🙏20250128_213421.jpg

Back in 1990 I thought it would be a good idea to feed my left hand through a skinning machine at work.
It wasn't a good idea having seen my bones and removing some nerves .
Some amazing surgeon and 3 months physio it's about 95% normal function.
Stick at it Tim ,first couple of sessions I was in tears with the pain but it gets better and better atb Stumpy
