Steiner vs Kahles vs Meopta , Scopes ?

Does anybody have compared scopes of these three brands? Mostly intrested in low light ability.
I know that both Kahles and Meopta are excellent, but have not compared recent models.
Is the "hunting" range from Steiner in the same league ? They are in a cheaper price range.

No experience with there scopes but I have Steiner binos 8x42 hunters, and a swarovski scope. I only get a few minutes more on the scope compaired to the binos. However those minutes are not when you want to be shooting if at the end of the day, and still too dark first thing to ID if it's the correct sex on on a roe in the middle of December. I would defiantly recommend a further look at the Steiner scopes!

Hope this helps!

I used my Meopta 3-9x40 in low light for the first time last month when I couldn't see the deer with my naked eye and I got my buck.
I have just purchased a Steiner Ranger 2-8x42 illuminated for my .375 and have only had it a week so haven't used it yet but first impressions make me very happy with my purchase.

I am recently a convert to Meopta glass, I have had Zeiss, & currently have Swaro's / Kahles, they are very very good, bonus is they haven't cottoned on yet to boost the prices.:norty:

Have two Meopta scopes and Swaro RF bins. There is very little if anything in it.

Would have bought Meopta RFs but didnt like the ergonomics.

I think of Meopta like a pard, very good punching way higher than its price tag.

Never heard of a person disappointed with them.

Thanks.
I have an older model Kahles 6x42 with 26mm tube. Wich is truly excellent. Kahles is the company were Swarovski got their knwoledge. 20-25 years ago their scopes were identical.
A good few years ago we ( a friend am me ) tested a Meopta 7x50 against a Swar 3-9x42 ( A line ) Both with 1" tube.
The Meopta outclassed the Swaro, by giving us 10-15 extra minutes of shooting time at 1/3 of the price.

As I am in the market for a new scope on my 7x64 and a 30-06 R93 is on it's way. I am in the market for a few new scopes.
I still have two brand new Zeiss 6x42 scopes.
I think about putting one on my 7x64 in QR mounts and get a second "battue" scope on the same rifle.
The 30-06 will get something like a 2-10x50 from Meopta or Kahles.
So I am curious to see how the new models compare.

Or I should try to sell the 6x42 scopes and put a variable on both rifles?

Some say that the Steiner scopes are even superior to Meopta and they are less expensive. But I have never seen one.

I have full confidence that a R2 2-10x50 or R1 3-12x56 from Meopta will be all the scope you would ever need for traditional field work.

I've got an R1r 3-12x56 on my .308. Great in low light, the crosshair's an illuminated cross in the middle of a beautifully clear reticle. I've added their specific aftermarket BDC drum to it, and it's a dream to use.

My .243 foxing and varmint rifle has a ZD 6-24x56 RD on it. All the scope I'll ever need for foxing, long range varminting and range use. I loved it so much I bought another one to go on my 6.5 .

Somewhere in the cupboard I've got an old and battered Artemis 7x50. It was originally intended for my rimfire, but the parallax is set too far for close range bunnies. Still a superb, simple scope for high seat or woodland stalking work.

My binos are Meopta 10x42 HD B1s. I got them before the EU referendum, and they were priced in those heady days of good exchange rates at £700. Madness........! Even at today's prices they still hold their own against the Swaros and Leica's I've compared them with.

Thanks.

I would go with your suggestion of 6x42 for stalking work and a 1-4x20 battue scope. I have done exactly this with my 7x 65r.

Proper Battue scopes have a wide field of view at low power. I did first try a 1-6x20 but found it too bulky and swapped for the smaller 1-4x20. I would seriously have a 1-4x20 leupold with 1” tube. They are much lighter than the European 30mm tubes. Saying that my Docter 1-4 is still good in low light.

I have seriously looked at 1.5-10 x 42 type scopes all on a 30 mm tube. But they are big, heavy and bulky. And at low power they do not have the field of view of the proper battue.

Just a thought from someone who knows little about optics technically. We perhaps shouldn't compare light gathering quality of scopes of fixed mag versus variable mag ?
It would seem from many comments I've read on here and other sources over the years that for optimal low light performance, stick to fixed magnification (assuming exit pupil is approximately the magic 7mm).

I have a Khales scope mounted on my combi it dates from 1976 crystal clear glass. I rate Meopta, great scopes for the money. Stiener, don't know anything about their scopes but have pair of their bino's that are OK.
