Stock Molds

Another itch needing to be scratched...first mold being constructed, once this is in place the tooling gel coat will be applied making two molds. I'm hoping to perfect this and the carbon wrapping process (I have already started perfecting the carbon wrap) and I will be offering this as another service for stocks.

what are you planning to fit in them please ?
At this stage a blank canvas but would probably start with a Rem 700. Before I get to footprints the actual mould needs to be perfected I can then look at bedding blocks and strengthening rods for pistol grip, butt stock and forend.

Are the pictures of the mould or of the part that the moulds will be taken off from?
I spent a year in Chryslers fibreglass moulding room in the body experimental department back in 1968 that's why I am asking, the basics have not changed in the last 50 years.

if you every fancy cz45x, I'm a buyer

good luck

Yes that is the pattern mold I’m making ready for the tooling gel coat then the lay up of tooling resin, just need to fillet in the edges...might be a PM inbound sounds like you have a lot more knowledge for this project...

I clicked on this gunsmithing thread, for any inspiration other than the YouTube University, for oil finishing a REM 700 SA, wooden stock, this has me intrigued too though. Any update on the progress?

Interested to see progress aswell I’ve always wanted to make my own wood stock or get a stock duplicator ,seems therapeutic in a way, will get one someday

Make a mould using plaster of paris with hessian scrim in it as a reinforcement that is what we did at Chrysler even did the roof mould of the clay for the 180 model man that was heavy. Oh and be sure to use vaseline as a release agent after polishing the original with decent wax polish. Put some ply egg boxed boards into the mould before it hardens so that it will then sit flat on a workbench.
