Straight Pull Ar15 options

Hey all,

I have a .223 slot to fill. I don't currently have 'Target' on my FAC, but am looking to get this changed as I'm applying to join Diggle Ranges.

Im interested in a rifle I can shoot Civilian Service rifle with, and also use for foxing. Most of the guys competing in CSR seem to use AR pattern straight pull rifles in .223

I just wondered if anyone could suggest a reasonably priced rifle for this. Something which I can use 'out of the box' (sans optic/suppressor/brake/ammo etc)

Thankyou for your help and time.

If shooting CSR bisley or Diggle look at 18" or 20" for the 4 to 600 yard stages

Still no disadvantage on shorter stages

Valkyrie rifles makes good rifles, (he also shoots at diggle scr and bisley)
schmeisser seem to have a gew offerings now but ensure it has the extended side charger
Lots of other offerings out there and a buyers market for used rifles at moment
For CSR extended Side charging handle is essential
Round count on barrel essential as they get hammered in CSR with high round count and hot barrels

If you've not been to diggle yet pop along to a csr match and the lads will welcome any questions / let you view rifles out there

I'd go aero precision or schmeisser.

The lantac is a decent gun if you can wait 18+ months for it, the guys that run the company have the worst customer service known to man.
That's not me jumping on a band wagon either, I've first hand experience with them

Agree on the customer service point, you wait forever with virtually zero comms and then when its ready you cant even collect your new rifle - it has to be delivered to an RFD.

Still seem to be trading, but wouldn't be surprised if they were having some issues. I ordered a 223 rifle last year from them and they just went radio silent. I do have one of their .22RF rifles which is incredibly accurate for an AR.

I bought a Bradley Arms AR15 18 months ago and have used it for one full season of CSR. Fair price and it's been faultless.

I got an 18-inch barrel - plenty of people use shorter than this, so I disagree with the comment above about needing 18-20 inch for 600 yards. But I don't really see any advantage to a shorter barrel so I went with 18-inches.

I've played around with most, I've shot Bradley Arms, Lantac and Southern Gun.

I own a Southern Gun (second hand to me with a new 20" barrel).

Broadly, putting aside smoothness of operation there is not much a specific manufacturer will get you other than clout, with the possible exception of Valkyrie, because Dave makes his own barrels from the blanks you'd make precision bolt action barrels from.

As far as I'm aware everyone else is using European/US premade barrels.

My Southern Gun has an insanely smooth bolt, smoother than any other AR I've got experience with, though I'm not sure if this is because it's a SG upper, lower and bolt carrier, or because it's already shot 10,000 rounds.

Triggers, grips, stocks, handguard, you can get all the best from all of them.

Based on my experience with them as a company, over a very protracted (due to sourcing parts), very highly specified 22lr AR15 they built for me I'd recommend Blue Fieldsports, based on the quality of their custom upper and lower I'd recommend Southern Gun.

Fat bob if he is still kicking made a nice rifle . Sadly Mark is no longer with us. Matt Greenall made insanely accurate Ar's
Get match stainless 20-24 fat barrel screw cut etc if you intend to push out passed 600.
Discuss twist to bullet choice.
Discuss what side and how many charge handed. I'd suggest both sides 🤔
Upper would be flat top with full pic rail .

I thought Fat Bob (SGC) died recently?

I have a SGC straight pull chambered in 5.56, with full uncut upper. It’s just used for plinking, but currently looking for parts to convert it to an M16a1, I even have an original upper lol
