Subsonics not cycling in a moderated semi auto shotgun

My old Remington 1100 was very load fussy no matter what I did to it. It would only really cycle 36gm shells with any reliability. 32's nearly always worked but you just couldn't trust them fully.
My current 11-87 cycles 28gm all day long and I never have an issue with it though if you go down to 24gm it can not deal with them.

The rem 1100 I had only cycled 32 gram, 36 gram jammed it and 28 gram were a no no! Though when it worked it shot well!

I have an old beat up Baikal hush power about a half mile long.
It's ugly but I shoot it really well. The length actually helps. And although not silent I have noticed that birds are soon to be coming in again. Any supersonic crack that is present seems to have little range, especially when windy.
Oh yes, I have had one of those since the mid 90's and the o/u 20 bore. Used with their cartridges they are very quiet. A bit like shooting with a bit of stove pipe but once onto a bolting rabbit it helps to continue the swing when taking the shot!

I loved mine, shot my first right and left at woodcock with it but it was terribly unreliable though it handled well and I shot well with it.
I used to put 36gm express (blue shells) though it and it worked fine then but anything less than that was a lottery and if you went to 28gm it was just not going to happen.
Tried so many options to get it to cycle reliably but it never worked out so changed for the 11-87 which never let's me down with 28gm or above regardless if I have forgotten to clean it or not.
Still have a hankering for a .410 1100!

I've always used Berretta semi auto shotguns, they have been super reliable, my first was a 302 which shot many thousands of shells for pigeon, today its a 391. The problem comes that once you moderate and try to shoot low power loads everything changes, you cannot expect a semi auto gun of any type to be reliable with so many significant changes.
