12B humane dispatch loads

We did some testing last year to show our new HAD’s the advantages and its limitations.
Here’s the film of how it went.
On the down side we asked a company called primetake about loading more up for us and other constabularies that have HAD schemes
They wonted £5 per cartridges and minimum order of 7,000!!
With Essex and Wiltshire constabularies coming on board with there own schemes using the Hampshire model there will be a need for these cartridges as i have said before as a useful tool in the box.
If anyone knows or is involved in making these cartridges could they please contact me.

Very interesting video, thank you. :thumb:

Presuming all those shots were with a 12b? Out of interest, do you know if anyone has filmed the same using a .410 with lead shot, as it would be interesting to see the results, both on paper and on actual deer heads?

Normally I use a 410 folding shotgun with a muzzle mounted moderator for HD, recently I've purchased a fully moderated 12b (pedretti/hushpower) what I liked about the 410 was both its efficiency and lack of mess, I'm thinking a reduced 12b load or possibly a light cartridge, even the subsonics I've put through the gun have been loud, not an issue in the field but sometimes I do the farmer a favour and put down sheep and pigs in the pen. Wondering if anyone downloads their 12b, or do I just repair and stick with the 410?
either will work a std 410 loads at close up is equated to Dirty Harrys magnum so go ahead punk LOL . Its not something that should be shot at anything other than close . If you roll your own stubby 12 bore has more use and as pattern is not a real thing at the ranges used in dispatch.

Has anyone downloaded a 12b for this? I havn't reloaded shotgun cartridges for years but I would expect you could start with a pretty standard 70mm plastic wad 12 bore cartridge with small shot, opening up the star crimp, pouring out the contents, cutting off the star crimp reducing the powder and shot, reuse or adjust the plastic wad, make an overshot card and roll crimp to fit.

@Buchan and I pattern tested a 12b for HD use a few years back. A standard cartridge (30g 6 shot) gave us 4-5 yards before the shot column dispersed and became visually less concentrated.

Yes, kind of, for rats.
Can't remember but 3/4 Oz and 17-18 gn of red dot rings a bell.

And this is a lot of the problem with stalkers who dont regularly use shotguns of any sort, they just don't know how they work and deploy any loads whether it's out of a 410 or 12g!
The question I get asked mostly on any DMQ course I help with is what shot size do you use, it doesn't mater if it's 4's or 9's, low power or high power at the distance most dispatching is done at. as said the shot is forced out in a column and this column gets wider the further out it gets, the 410 is one of the most used tools for the job but there will come a time when you just can't get close enough to make a human one shot dispatch which is why the 12g is probably the one that fits all especially with the range of ammunition available from safe shot through to a very load.
