Any favourites for monolithic copper in 308?
I'm a newbie to reloading and have just done my DCS1 and Boar certificates.

Lapua naturalis 👌 if I still had a 30cal that’s what I would be using and eventually I’ll be heading that way in 7mm

Virtus 125 Osprey, Barnes TTSX 130 and 130 Fox all shoot well in my Surgeon - just with varying charge of N135. They all shoot to exactly the same point of aim.

The LOS 140 is worth a look, a cheaper alternative to copper although I’ve not shot deer with it yet.

I don’t have a Yew Tree load in .308 but the 119 is worth looking at.

Am I the only one on here who would shoot a 150gn bullet?

All the posts bar mine are all light, the bread and butter weight for the 308 is 150gn lead or copper, lighter bullets usually means faster bullets which equals damage in my non educated opinion 🙈😂

I’ve just reloaded 150 grain Fox in .308. Very accurate but not yet tested on deer. I prefer heavy and slower than light and faster. Always seems less meat damage.
Photo show 5 round group at 100m and it’s using a PulsarIMG_3035.webp C50 in daylight ……

My stalking .308 is a 1:12 which suits the lighter bullets extremely well. Damage is moderate to be honest, both bucks I shot this weekend dropped on the spot with not particularly massive damage.

I do use 149gr Yew Tree but it’s on steroids out of a .300 WM….

In the grand scheme of things, 150gr and 130gr will be equal velocity at about 300m (apples to apples). That is also somewhat the max distance that expanding monometals work acceptably (talking about mainstream, I'm aware of Brit boutique manufacturers and others before them). Up to that point 150gr is fast enough but slower than 130gr, so theoretically less damage (apples to apples).

If you had moose on menu, I'd definitely suggest 150gr. For UK I think 130gr is enough, and you can load it to desired velocity. Again talking about mainstream. But nothing wrong with the 150gr.

I use the 145gr 308 as I use the same load for pigs. Love them

44gr N140 sticks them out at 2650 ish

Hi Mike, I’m a fan of Yew Tree bullets. 126.5 or 119gr in .308 - fantastic bullets and supporting British manufacturing. Cheers, Jon
