I have a friend in the USA, and would like to send him a bottle of whisky as a thanks you for a favourite he's recently done me. I'd like it to be a decent bottle, but have no idea if it's possible for me just to send it direct, or if it needs to be subject to export regulations or any such nonsense. Or if I can even order it from a US site and have them send it directly to him. Would anyone on the site have experience of anything similar? I'd really appreciate any guidance 🤔

Have a look on the royal mail website when you put his address in, I think, if it's a gift then it can be sent with just the basic declaration, which you can fill in on the royal mail website as part of the postage I think

A friend runs the Whisky shop at Tyndrum and I've just been looking at the potential mailing costs. The web site stated there were/are significant delays in getting orders to the USA and it also depends which states you are sending alcohol to! Have a look at the Tyndrum Whisky website site to get an idea. It might be a wiser move to order a bottle or two from an importer in the States and take a hit on the conversion costs instead?
No harm in trying one of the Edinburgh Whisky shops to see if they can do a better deal.

Easier/less costly/fraught to buy it online from a US liquor store and have it sent internally from my (limited) experience.
