It is an interesting point and valid as after owning three hornets and looking down many a hornet barrel to confirm what I learnt, hornet is unique in that it produces water vapour like all cartridges but not enough heat to warm the barrel with just one shot leading to droplets forming just forward of the chamber causing damage.
Check before you buy.
It also does not mean a hornet is finished if there are pits there. It's just a unique trait to check for.

I had a cracking CZ 22 Hornet which I really regret selling. The buyer put it back for sale on here, lovely timber stock. I think it's gone now though. Fill case with Lil gun and 45 gr Sierra bullet can't go wrong. Never had problem with accuracy or killing power. Shot a RTA Fallow with it at 70yds as I had nowt else apart from 12 bore with me and it was moving away on two smashed front leg stumps. Took me back to a mis spent youth.
