Surprised!

I’ve recently used 40 rounds of Hornady 150 grain Whitetail ammo in my 308.
Thought I’d reload the cases so deprimed and sized and then went to prime them….first one bent the pin on my Lee Ramset priming device.
Checked the pockets and they looked to be Staked/ crimped or something, so had the team them out before priming.
This is a first for me with Hornady ammo.
Anyone else found this.
Cheers, Ken.

Which primers? I had similar with hornady match brass and henry krank primers, a friend had similar issues , wreaked two cases (first one I wrongly assumed was faulty). Hopefully the magtech will be a better fit

Hi Gm;
Got these from Kranks but they’re CCI standard LR.
They fit in nicely once I’ve twirled this little reamer thingy round a couple times.
Thanks, Ken.

This the tool I used to open the pockets. Looks like you can’t cut too deep with it.
It came from the bay?
and has a few tools in the handle.

How odd! I have reloaded many types of brass in .308 including a lot of military 7.62 with varying crimps (apparently for machine guns to ensure primers stay in place) but they have always deprimed easily - primers required a quick kiss with a drill with a screw countersink to remove the various offending pocket crimps - easypeasy…

Good morning gentlemen, thank you for posting this. i fired 60 rounds of the hornady black and they are about to get tumbled ,resized etc and later today hand primed so will give them a quick crimp removal before i try and prime them.

Slightly more pressure to de-prime (normally) and a whip around with a primer pocket swager to remove the crimp 'overhang' before trying to reload.
I think most Hornady ammunition has crimped primers these days, but happy to be corrected.

Regards

Mark
