A pair and a single swallow were spotted locally, (just north of the Ribble estuary) earlier today. Sand martins are now being spotted fairly frequently too.
Chiffchaffs and and odd willow warbler were in full song in the Trough of Bowland this week.
I was at a friend's house last week where they have a large ornamental garden pond. I was quite surprised to see a family of moorhens ! The young, 7 of them, were a week to ten days old. This puts the eggs being layed in late February ! That is very early, especially up here.
