Anyone used one of these 17-40 x 56?? They’re tiny, and look to punch well above their weight, will try and get to a nearest stockist to try first hand but anyone else tried one care to offer opinion?
I’m struggling to work out what models either or yours are? This is the one I’m referring to though which looks somewhat different? In good light, good. Targets at noon, etc.
In not so good light, not so good. Excellent optically, superb in terms of weight, usability/ergonomics, but limited in light gathering ability compared with the other members of the family.
Only an opinion, of course.

That’s the kind of review I was hoping for!! Right, defo made up my mind the drive to the nearest stockist (not near!!) is worth doing so thank you for the direct comparison, I would expect some compromise given the weight and size saving but your review sounds more glowing than I was hoping for so really appreciate it. Also price wise they’re not bad considering the other options and current asking, so really keen to get first hand or rather eyes on itI have had the ATS65 with the 20-60 eyepiece for 15+ years and, unsuprisingly, it is superb.
But I was loaned an ATC for a day earlier this year, and was incredibly impressed.
It seems to have slightly less field of view than the ATS, but I could not sense much of a difference in light-gathering.
Even these two, combined, were nowhere near enough, for me, enough to offset the significant decrease in size and weight.
I am seriously considering trading my ATS in for the ATC.
Yeah the kowa is on my radar, I’ve seen direct comparison reviews of the two side by side on YouTube. I just prefer the compact shape and rubberised finish of the Swaro, don’t get me wrong, I had a kowa scope for years and it was awesome, but it’s the no frills sleek petite appearance the Swaro has which I I’m leaning towards as to your other suggestions yes maybe, and if vortex did something similarly compact I’d be all over it, I’m not such a fan of the two brand you mention personally but things may have changed. The obvious competitor is the recently introduced Kowa TSN 55A. Before spending this sort of money I would want to try both of these side by side at (say) a branch of In Focus. Even with "alpha" glass the objective size is limiting, and some of the cheaper options from Opticron or even Hawke are not too far behind.
What are you intending to use it for Andy, target spotting?Yeah the kowa is on my radar, I’ve seen direct comparison reviews of the two side by side on YouTube. Thank you, how had that not come up in my searches!!Vortex Razor HD 13-39 x 56.
Na it’ll be for wildlife/birdsIf you are using it for targets I went and bought one of those target camera thingies. Soo much better. I use it mainly for zeroing out to 200 yards.
A lot cheaper as well.
