How does everyone rate the ds ? I seam to have trouble in low light conditions and was wondering if anyone else is having this problem or it’s just my eyes

I have a DS and also find it not great in low light ,but to be fair I'm comparing it to my ziess victory ht 3x12x56 .Which I have found to be the best scope for low light for my aging eyes.

DS has a relatively low twilight factor and transmission level - the latter I think is about 83% as opposed to the best 'last light' scopes at 92-95%. I imagine the illuminated reticle will also impact last light viewing.

Zeiss are known for having top glass at low light

Same here re: lowlight. Stunning accuracy regards 'press the button' - but no better than my Z6i's with ballistic turrets.
Do I regret buying it - no. Would I buy another - no!.
Yes the ballistic side is brilliant. I’m the same as you ,sometimes I think why did I buy it but I won’t sell it and no I would buy another

The ds is a designated long range stalking scope for body builders in right day light.
Lenses en mass, in-built electronics and high magnification cannot possibly render top notch light transmission by definition.

Same here but I find the performance is acceptable at lower magnification - best for watching reaction to shot too. I am glad I bought it and are not planning to get rid of it but as with others, I wouldn’t buy another:lol:

Not stalked with one but had a look through one - I agree about the low light. I also thought it was a really bulky scope, WAY more bulky than a standard scope.

TBH I also still dont really see the point in it. I get it if you're a long range shooter and are regularly shifting between distances, and dont want to mess about with ballistic turrets and what not. Though the ballistic turrets are a lot cheaper!

But for stalking? Just zero your rifle at 200y, you'll be 1-2" high at 100y and maybe 3-4" low at 250y and just stick the crosshair bob on. And lets be honest, how many of us REALLY shoot deer beyond 250y on enough of a regular basis to make the extra expense worth it?

And then there is the fact that the scope only has (as I recall from a year ago) two wind speed settings - 5mph and 10mph. So how does that work when you're on the hill and you've got a 30-40mph wind screaming through?

The other thing that makes me a bit nervous about this scope is that it might well tempt people to take longer shots than they might otherwise do without the technology thinking that its an infallible crutch when actually its not.
