Swarovski EL binoculars - 32 vs 42 objective

Haven't the 32's, but have a pair of SLC7x30, light, bright and very all right! All you need in the summer months or through the day, IMO. Have Zeiss 7/42, 8/56, Leica 8/42, and the smaller Swaros in 8/20 & 10/25, which are good but inferior to the 7/30's in terms of ease of acquiring a comfortable view for long observation. 7x no longer offered for sale, afaik. No benefit in carrying anything heavier in summer in my view. Sure the 32's are equal or better, if not lighter too.

Even made myself a bridle butt leather case for 'em, they might even be with me in my box after this life!129125

I have the 10 x 32 Field Pro and have been on many a birding trip in the last year with them. After 20+ years of carting x 40+ around I think I have made the right decision. No more sweaty neck and bumping chest, these lightweights have made the experience much nicer. The image is impressive that's for sure.

I've a pair of EL 10 x 32 which I've had for about 10 years. Mostly used for hill work, where they're great, nice and bright image and light to carry. However, I found the magnification a bit strong for stalking in the woods, so I bought a pair of 8 x 30 Travelers from R Macleod which are perfect for closer work, where I need a slightly wider field of vision. Hope this helps, Dave

Love my 8x32EL's, the quality of the optics is more important than 10mm on the objective lense in my opinion. I have got quite a few pairs of decent binos (and have had many more), my favourites are my old Zeiss 7×42 BGAT'S but if I could only keep one pair for the rest of my life and for all round use it would be the Swarovski 8×32s. My partner has a pair of 8×30SLC's and these are probably 90% as good as the EL's for about half the price second hand.

I will only have the 42`s personally, the advantages are obvious to those that use them.

Have had the Zeiss B/GAT& P's 7/42 round my neck the past 30+years, but no advantage against daylight and Scottish summer light (2 hours of dull in mid June) Swaro 7/30: 650gr, my Leica 8/42's are 940+.....

That looks superb FF.....really impressive leather work.
No job too small John, discreet, personal service  :tiphat::rofl:

Check out the 'three draw telescope case' (should manage your 'long article', cobber :p

I wish they would make the range finder models with a 32mm objective. For active hunting during daytime, which is the most common field of application for such a piece of equipment, I see no sense in hauling around a 42mm model.
Steiner actually offers one. But it still weighs almost as much as the 42mm models of the other brands.

Er, thanks - I think the 32s just get the edge of support but I can see why the 42s are praised. I'm thinking slightly smaller and lighter will be better than the marginal improvements with the 42 and may consider the 8x as well.
Thanks all.
