I'm shocked that Swarovski cannot repair this

who did you contact or talk to ?

I always contact Austria direct and have never had anything but 100% fantastic service on scopes

It was damaged in the post Royal mail denied any responsibility despite going to an independat arbitrator, reply from Swarovski below.
Dear Mr Gordon,

thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately, I have to tell you that no repairs can be carried out at the old Habicht 4 and Habicht 6 rifle scopes.

Yeah that's who I use

well this is something if they won't repair scopes after a certain age

do you know the date your scope was made ?

It it might be with asking them when it was made ?

I read this in disbelief, only because the reality is that now my Habicht scopes no longer hold the same value knowing that they not covered by Swarovski's excellent service.

I was disappointed when I bought a new pair of SLC's a few months ago and was told that Swarovski now only give a 10 year guarantee.

I've always had nothing but exemplary service from Swarovski, I'm amazed that is the case.

you can do one of two things
a) get an independent to replace the wire reticule (and as Swarovski have shown that the warranty or service is worth cock all that would be my choice)
or
b) force them to replace it with a glass etched reticule WHICH I KNOW THEY DO!

this happend to my 20yr old S&B and they did the latter at a cost of Euro300!! plus the VAT that McLeods stuck on it (N.B. GO DIRECT TO GERMANY AND SAVE 20%

try Paul burke scope repairs I've used him he knows his stuff been repairing scopes for years. 01217881050 .

Would it be worth having a chat to Swarovski UK ?

If it is the case that Swarovski are putting a limit on scope age regards repairs then this will effect the S/H market prices

Hi I just had mine repaired. I dropped it lost zero and would not track. Sent down south they sent it to Austria. Even though I bought it second hand, they still repaired free of charge, came back all polished up like new habicht 8x50 with a list of parts they replaced. Great company :tiphat:

Hi All

If I recall correct the Habicht-Nova (steel-tubed) scopes only ever had a 2 year warranty - after all these came out in the mid-late 80s, when warrantys were different.

Whilst some end users will have repairs/refurbishment carried out some wont - my original 6x42 H-N's 'make-up' looks tired, Swarovski used to, a few years ago, reblue these but when I enquired they had stopped offering this...........
Having said this my original 7x42SL's, from when originally marketed, were serviced by them 2 years ago.

The outcome will be interesting for me as my H-N, dressing a .300WM, may well need a reticle at some point!

Thats not true, Habicht Nova scopes carried a full 30 year warranty.

This is a bit worrying got a few Swarovski things and the only reason I would pay stupid money for them is the knowledge they repair when they go wrong.
If it is correct then it's time to sell them very quickly as the market will plummet.

Hiya All

I noted the >15post onwards and had an interesting telephonic chatter with Christine (of many years) at Swarovski.

- indeed some of the Habicht-Novas did have a 30 and even 40yr warranty!, my indication of 2yrs was based on a chatter with Swarovski several years ago so could well have been 'mis-remembered', nevertheless I now stand better informed.
- some fixed magnification H-Ns now have no 'warranty' - as there are no spare parts left. PF/AV may still be able to be repaired/serviced presumably subject to availability of spares.
- warranty on EL Binos is now 10yrs, warranty on RF model electronics is 2yrs.

Other manufacturers may well offer 'X-years' warranty but when coming towards say end of 25+yrs will the spares set aside have run down.........only time will tell. How many and how long is it 'reasonable' to keep said spares........

I would hope if my wired-reticle needs replacing this is still possible/available - rebluing of H-Ns was available but stopped when I was thinking about having mine 'refreshed' a few years ago..........so war-wounds and all that for the memory stay.

In this context a 'life-time warranty' on an optical instrument will be interesting - assuming brought in ones mid-20s and time called 50yrs on who will be able to verify still good as the written word.....

Thanks for the reply Loki, very interesting, I work for a manufacturer/ supplier of fire alarm equipment we issue an expected life expectancy for our products, and give an update on how long we expect the spares to last
