Am I missing something? Swarovski Z8i 3.5-28x50 P: "Long Range" but lack of Elevation ? If part of this scope's supposed purpose/capability includes long range shooting how come it's Elevation is only 14 mrad? Excuse the ignorance, please explain..

I briefly owned one of these with the BRH reticle. I never actually shot it. If I had got it set up and shot it at longer ranges, I would have used the ladder. I've owned Swarovski scopes since the early '90's. I never ever adjust them in the field or on the range. I zero them at an inch high at a 100yds and go stalking. For practice on ranges I use the ladder.

If you're really unhappy, call Swarovski in Austria. I've spoken to them, but they don't understand how their products are used.

I think that Z6i 5-30 x 50 is a far better scope than the Z8i, hence selling my brand new Z8i and keeping a Z6 and a Z6i.

14 mrad will be enough to get you to 1000m with most rounds.

Zeiss zero stops stop you far earlier. I was told by a zeiss rep that they are a hunting scope and they don’t agree with long range shots at animals.

Finding a crossover scope is very difficult.

For long range (.22 LR) I bought one of these recently and it does have adjustment.

So maybe 7mrad, not accounting for going to the end stop (bad). Long range by hunting standards, as I'd expect from a Z series, but not a long range otherwise.

Max elevation range is not the same as the bullet drop or corrections needed.

Thanks @Overthehill I had been trying (unsuccessfully) to find the same information.

I've ended up with a ballistic turret and two different rounds seeking to span stalking and (fun) range work (4AI reticule).

The stalking round is zeroed 1" high at 100m so effectively pretty flat from there to ~175m which is pretty much the max I would consider a hunting shot, preferring to be around or under 100m wherever possible.

The target round is bang on at 100m and the turret set to 2,3,4,500m.

I was wondering if there was any chance it could stretch any/much further for range work and this thread has really helped to understand simply 'no', so thank you and the contributors

I'm now contemplating a second (FFP) scope to stretch the range work further and perhaps dip a toe into PRS but expect that if I do end up on the range much or shooting PRS regularly, then a second rifle/scope combination might realistically be required.

For now, I'm looking forward to trying out to 500-yds at Bisley (and plotting the DOPE properly), once my NRA application is complete and I've gained my Safe Shooters Certification.

PRS 22 is an easier road to go down rather than centrefire PRS.
