Swazi Tahr XP

I'm in the market for a new Smock and I'm currently swaying towards the Swazi Tahr XP. I'm a little reluctant to buy one as I'm not convinced that's it fully waterproof and breathable ( I always look for the Goretex material), also the material seems to be a little noisy. Any of you use one, pros and cons please.
Regards

Just for info, Swazi are not made in Nz anymore, and now under new ownership, they do sound noisy, we stock a lot of different coats, I can say I have never had a jacket that breaths enough when you are really active, so you don,t get wet from sweat, gortex is just a brand name, most company’s have there own version.
I have the original Tahr, out after pigs the other day, on very steep bush in slight drizzle, back was wet from sweat when I got back to the ute, it is gortex lined.

i have an original swazi tahr (the ray mears one with two breast pockets) it's the best i have found as already mentioned you will sweat if really exerting yourself but i've yet to discover a jacket that prevents this?

it's robust and quiet enough , all in all a well thought out and made smock

Whilst Goretex is indeed a brand name for generic Moisture Valour Permeable material, it’s one of the best. Many own brands are simply inferior. I gave 20 year old Goretex gloves and jackets that have never leaked and aren’t showing any sign of leaking in the near future. In my opinion Goretex is the standard for others to beat.

Completely agree.

Absolutely!

I’ve had one of the ‘original’ (made in NZ) smocks for a few years & it’s been excellent.

I’d noticed with regret that the current ones are made elsewhere, I hadn’t realised the company ownership had changed though. A pity.

The original smocks were much better laid out for stalking too with the breast pockets
