Switch from lead to non toxic rounds

Just looking for advice and opinions on switching from lead to non toxic.
Full clean of barrels ? Anything else to consider?
Recommended ammunition to try in sako 85 .308

As a qualifying remark to the above, they don’t ALL work well. I tested out some by a well-known American manufacturer which keyholed wildly all over the place forming something like a 10 inch scatter at 50yds. I’m sure that’s a particularly poor result, but numerous other people had similar experiences with the same bullet, and it’s not one you hear recommended much.

Gave up using all lead (shotgun and rifle) six years ago. There are lots of good alternatives nowadays. Would never wish to go back to lead. I use Fox 130 grain in my 7mm-08.

What do you use in 28B or .410 for pest control?

I have to say that where I shoot, among many large RFDs, there is zero or very little choice of non-lead stocked even in 12B - subject to the criteria of no plastic wads and suitable loads. I suppose if I only mowed down waves of low birds on commercial, big-bag, home county shoots, it wouldn’t be a problem.

I don't use either. Being a farmer, I don't want them anywhere near my farm buildings, for obvious reasons. I might allow airguns - though I don't want any lead in grain or feed.

A full cleaning seems to be the thing to do - quite alien for me but seems to be working. Also go down in weight and take note of your barrel twist.

I switch from Barnes Ttsx 165gr to Hornady Interlock 180gr and back on daily basis without any special procedures. I try to keep bore of my rifle clean, using nylon brush + patches after each hunt + Iosso paste after 20-30 shots fired.

I have been using Fox Classic Hunter 150 grain in my Sako .308 for 6 years now with no problems. I'm shooting Red,Roe and Sika. The Reds and Sika out to 300 yards dropping them on the spot, as long as they are hit in the right place.
44 grains of Viht. N540.

Jacketed lead bullets don't have exposed lead .
The jacket is a copper alloy .
I just shoot both in all my rifles without cleaning in between .
Just check your zero !!!
