So after 8 months of waiting, the shop finally called and said my end cap brake for my A-Tec H3 has finally arrived, (dont ask)
iv owned the mod for a good year and its never been apart, just tried now and as suspected, it aint coming off easy,
so whats the best method to apply, im a bit bull in a China shop when it comes to stuff like this, and before you know it, its in a vise squashed.
which i really dont want to happen, can it be as easy as blathering it with WD-40 for a day or 2??

thanks.

Depends how bad it is. You tube is bound to have some videos.
Could also Try heating it.
Filter strap can help but like you say be careful you don't squash it.

if it’s the end cap isn’t it a Alan key fitting like the old Atec’s
Good luck as I managed to remove my end cap and the crack baffle I used heat gun ice and god knows what else
In the end sent it to Jackson’s rifles and they replaced the baffles
But mine was an early one and they had the parts fantastic service

All the above about soaking with proper penetration oil (eg Kroil) apply.

Depending on whether you can find one the correct diameter, you could try making a wooden ‘wrench’ to grip the moderator using a tank cutter.

I’ve posted this before, but I have a pair of these for each of my moderators.

Get yourself some 18mm thick ply & cut two rectangles out about 10cm x 15cm. Cut a hole in each with the centre 5cm from the top & each long side. Then make a shallow ‘V’ cut from the bottom of the hole down to the bottom edge so you have a keyhole shaped cut.

Put the moderator into the hole & either clamp the ‘wrench’ in a vice or use a G clamp to hold it. This will give you additional leverage. You can use a sheet of paper between the moderator & the wrench to prevent marking it.

Brute force lol. I spent weeks trying to get into my .17 hmr moderator. Now I make sure it’s copper greased and not too tight when I put it back together. The **** that came out of this thing was inconceivable.

I used to strip and clean my mods and keep them accessible, but then read a few times not to bother cleaning, and i figured for the cost, when it was beggered id just buy a new one, rimfire are cheap enough, but not so much for CF, well iv a few options to try, but i know it will go badly as i have zero patience, and tend to go at things like this with a sledgehammer

thanks👍

well for the time being i only have WD-40 so put some of that on it yesterday and today a few times, managed to get some of it apart, but not the end bit that i needed off, and the bit that opened never had any WD-40 on it either, its now soaking in diesel, just wondering if any of this should concern me, holes look a bit raggy, but straight on they look fine,

well, thanks to my brutish attack on it, it doesnt look as pretty anymore, but its apart and now supporting its new end brake cap, blathered in WD-40, then into diesel, drilled 2 half holes in some timber just smaller than the mod, put it in a vice and borrowed a strap thing off a mechanic mate, thanks for everyones help and advice 👍
