The Aftermath of Cecil the Lion

Just like us "hunters" the "antis" are a broad church. Not all politically correct, tofu munching, tree-huggers. Much of their concern is well intentioned and much of the grief we as hunters get is fueled by skewed reporting and - lets be honest - sometimes doggy practices in the shooting community. I believe we do very little except huff and puff to convince skeptics that what we are doing is ethical and necessary.

I don't know that I would be so kind to antis - In my experience they are almost always anthropomorphic to the extreme and usually detached from reality.

As far as "we" hunters - I think we are quite often our worst enemy by not standing together. Not long ago here we had a guy trying to start a petition to ban trapping on state wildlife lands, and eventually it boiled down that he knew there were trappers operating there to control the beaver, but he was concerned about his duck dog that he could not control (here, HERE, Here, HERE DAMMIT. Not a person outside of the outdoors community even visited that swampy piece of flooded ground until he quite publicly threw a fit.

I lived on the East Coast of the US for a goodly while in my youth and even then deer hunting was heavily restricted. The anti's were drumming up their numbers. They had deer hunting banned from many State forest lands that were previously open for hunting.

Now, the over populated deer die of starvation every winter. What do the peasant blousers want to do? Have the tax payer fit the bill for government workers to feed the deer. Stupidity reigns.~Muir
