So a heads up I went to John Norris the other day and asked for there best price on a douglas sky g 9’ 5 weight… priced at £899
They offered it me at…. £670 and yes it is as good as they say it is!!!

I’ve got lots of old rods btw my salmon rod is a 1990s sage brownie in annoyingly 3 pieces cast line a dream mind you.

I build 5 rods on sage RPL and LL blanks and still using them over 25 years later. Sure there are better rods but I like these well enough. I lived in Seattle and you could get cosmetic blem blanks for peanuts.

I picked up a Sage XP at a gamefair demo many years ago, when I was young and poor. I did three or four false casts to get a feel for it and the next thing I knew was the backing rattling out through the rings. It was the most beautiful rod I ever cast with and seemed perfectly suited to my casting style.

I don't fish enough these days to even think about spending that sort of money on a rod, even though I could probably afford it these days!

A new rod won’t correct poor technique and won’t make anyone a great caster. Better to spend some money on a lesson and practice. A fast action rod might be a great casting tool but not a dry fly river rod because they are too stiff to protect light tippet. A medium fast rod - like the SLT or LL is the best compromise.
